Amazon.co.uk Review

"Ah, we're rockin' now, baby!" World Martial Arts champion and occasional action movie star Billy Blanks has become (almost) a household name with his own brand of fitness video, Tae-Bo. It's a simple yet inspired idea: take martial arts and boxing moves (punching, kicking) and turn them into an aerobic dance-style workout that viewers can do in their own living room (providing you move furniture and any fragile ornaments out of range first). No equipment, no dieting, no frills required: just enough space for some shadow-boxing and kicking. The testimony of Tae-Bo converts confirm that it's a high-energy, calorie-burning routine guaranteed to work those muscles and sweat away the flab. Our genial, energetic host leads you and a room of acolytes through three intensive live workouts in which the viewer will definitely need all the encouragement he so generously hands out to stay the course--at least for the first time. He launches very quickly into the full workout, so it's a good idea to warm yourself up before starting. Or you can watch the instructional session in which Billy introduces all the basic moves of Tae-Bo. This is vitally important as you won't be able to follow the workout routine without some initial practice. Here he is assisted by four women who, disconcertingly for the average couch potato, look like they need no additional toning whatsoever and seem to be made of rubber, so flexible are they when undertaking the stretching and bending exercises. Stiffer, less toned bodies may need to approach these with care. But once you've completed the introduction, you'll find that Tae-Bo really is fun: as Billy's enthusiasm catches hold and you feel those muscles start to burn you'll understand why it's become the most successful fitness series on video and now DVD. "Good job, good workout". --Mark Walker

I have enjoyed Billy Blanks' workout tapes in the past and would highly recommend this form of exercise for those seeking a relatively low impact fitness regime. However, "Three Energizing Workouts" are three 30-minute, basic Tae Bo programs targeted for beginners. At least 10 minutes of each workout is devoted to stretching and cool-down, leaving very little time to work up a real sweat! The fitness level is not implied in the descriptive literature accompanying this tape. Those looking for a more challenging workout should try Mr. Blanks' Advanced Tae Bo tape. Beginners should buy this one right now!

I am reasonably fit but haven't done taebo or anything in the martial arts line before. I tried the DVD for the second time today and its coming together-not only that but I'm getting muscle definition already! Both times I've worked up a sweat and got out of a breath-signs for me of a good workout. I think you'll get most out of this if you're reasonably fit so that you can start working out at full capacity fairly soon. You can always rewind to see the instruction again or get them to pop up mid workout but you MUST go thro the instruction bit 1/2 times before trying the workout. Enjoy!

The workout is good, but much slower than his orginal tapes and is definately geared at beginners. The added feature of reviewing the correct movement while doing a workout is a good idea, but is a little tempermental while operating on a pc as it requires a restart/relocation of your place in the workout. Overall, Blanks is as always a great person to work out to - but if you have done his stuff before buy a different tape.
