Product Description

'Happy food' (Delicious)

There are four branches of Bill's Cafe in the south but, if you're nowhere near one, this is a great taste of his seasonal, relaxed style of cooking and eating. (Tesco Real Food Magazine)

Bill's recipes are consistently fresh, vibrant and bursting with flavour... there's certainly something inside for everyone to cook, eat and share. One thing's for sure, this is a cookbook made for people who are in love with food. (Square Meal Magazine)

Lovingly crafted guide to a cooking year... Bill is clearly a bit of a food champion himself and his enthusiasm is evident on every page. (Mail on Sunday You Magazine)

One of the prettiest cookbooks I've seen in a while. Both the pages and the food vibrate with colour and energy. (BBC Good Food Magazine)

Bursting with vibrant colour, this is a fun celebration of good British produce. (Sainsbury's Magazine)

Book Description

This beautifully produced recipe book is the perfect showcase for the critically acclaimed Bill's Produce Store and its sumptuous, affordable food.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Cookery Book 27 Jun 2011
By BettyB
I expected the book to look good and it does. What I was more interested in was the quality of the recipes. I've found them original (not in a ground breaking way but imaginative takes on old favourites) and reliably good. I've owned enough recipe books to be wary of newcomers - there's nothing more frustrating than misjudged quantities, incorrect cooking time, cheaty ingredients. These recipes are fun to cook and delicious to eat. Bill's chicken Caesar has already become a staple (I've never had better), his slow cooked lamb, although slightly more complicated, is a great improvement on other versions I've tried and the marmalade flapjacks are gorgeous - not too sweet as is so often the case. Of course there are recipes I won't be tempted by but mainly I'm excited by the prospect of cooking my way through the book. An excellent addition to my collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars disapointing! 21 Jun 2011
I have been a great fan of Bill's since it opened and have yearned for the day that Bill published a cook book, and so when I saw it in the Lewes store last week - I bought it immediately! the reason I'm disapointed is that most of the recipes are straight forward and fairly obvious to create - 'stewed fruit,' 'broad bean mash and mint,' 'rhubarb and banana smoothie,' 'eggs benedict.' I was hoping for his wonderful 'pumkin and roasted vegetable lasagne,' 'morrocan tagine' and some other great Bill's favourites! there's no great suprises and I suppose thats because Bill does'nt want to give away all of his recipes because we wont still go there! Clever! But I still love Bill's and will always frequent it whenever I'm in that neck of the woods!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! 25 Jun 2011
This book is a pleasure to read, it's so much more than a bunch of recipes. It's colourful, full of life and gives me a reminder of great visits to the bill's in Lewes. A must for the kitchen and the coffee table.

I bought this as a present, but I like it so much I will have to buy my own copy! The photos are lovely & I feel hungry just reading the recipes, I like the fact it is seasonal, with inspiring ideas on every page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cook, Eat, SMILE! 15 Jun 2011
I have cooked from this book, have eaten and am still smiling! Intriguing and good fun to look at, lovely recipes with in-season vegetables and fruit, and friendly good common sense from the authors. I heard Bill on Radio 4's Midweek today, and thought he sounded as nice as his book!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is a great cookbook! 11 Jan 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I like the way it is divided into seasons and the different vegetables that are typical for that particular season. I saw it when I ate at Bill's in London and was about to buy it on the restaurant but in last minute decided not to buy it. I regretted that decision when I got back to Sweden so it was great to be able to buy it on Amazon. Great book with great pictures! You get inspired in the kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars I smiled big-time 4 May 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
If you've ever eaten at one of Bill's cafes you will appreciate the humour in the book, as well as the ethos and seasonality. I've only done four recipes so far (only just got the book) and they were fantastic. I'm eager to try other things as time permits.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit lacking in substance

2.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas and nice pictures, but very limited content
I was disappointed with this book. The recipes that are there are good, however, there are not many of them and most of the book seems to be pretty pictures. Read more
