Everything you need to know about the subject, especially if you are new to the activity. Written in an understandable style, even when using "birder" words like leucistic etc. Bill combines experience with common sense so that anyone can get enthused about birds.Well illustrated both with photographs and illustrations. Bill also has a chapter on the use of the internet to learn even more. This book is an absolute gem.

As my title says extremely good. This book gives you alot of information about birds but it is not a field guide or a where to watch book. This book tells you all you need to know about birdwatching and fieldcraft. It is excellent but the thing is it isnt a short read. It will take you a few days if not weeks but it is well worth reading it all. Mind you im only 12 so if your an adult you might be able to read it faster. I would really recomend it! 5 stars

In this book Bill Oddie gives fantastic information on how to start bird watching and brilliant facts and pictures about all the different birds you will find out there. Bill Oddie is a mine of information on birds and a whole load of other stuff. I like Bill because he doesn't assume that everyone has a whole load of money to buy stuff .

This is an excellent book. I am a beginner to birdwatching, so it is of special interest to me. Bill writes as he would talk to you on TV - engaging and encouraging, which is very important to a new birder. He tells you how to get going and the practical tips of birdwatching. I certainly recommend it to anyone considering the hobby and those who have just started - I think you'll get hooked.
