5.0 out of 5 stars Bill Oddie - Complete Genius!!, 26 Jan 2007
This is a programme to watch over and over agin. Beautifully presented, this is a refreshing look at wildlife.
The wildlife photography of John Aitchison never ceases to be stunning, and the music composed by David Poore goes fantastically.
I could never stop singing this programmes praises.
BRILLIANT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Make Bill your personal wildlife guide to Britain!, 27 Nov 2006
Bill Oddie made his name as one third of the cult 1970s comedy team The Goodies, but these days he's better known as a naturalist, bird-watcher and TV presenter. His easy-going relationship with the viewer makes it seem as though you are there alongside him. When he holds his breath to avoid being detected by his wildlife "prey", viewers also find themselves holding theirs. He is completely unpretentious and one can imagine having a few pints with him in front of the fire down the local after a damp day of "twitching" on the heath; he becomes a friend rather than just a presenter. This TV series was not promoted like the David Attenborough series Planet Earth, but was slotted into the schedule at tea-time almost as an afterthought. That scheduling does not do it justice, as it covers a wide range of habitats throughout country, resulting in a good selection of Britain's wild creatures taking star billing above the humble Mr Oddie. The greatest charm is that the viewer is taken on a tour of the country by a naturalist who usually finds his goal but occasionally gets just a fleeting glimpse just as you or I would. This DVD would make a great introduction to the British countryside for anyone planning to visit from abroad, but is recommended for anyone interested in British wildlife. A simple treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful---wish there were more of it!, 22 Mar 2008
By Reader (U. S. A.) - See all my reviews
Being in America, we are rather starved for Bill Oddie programs, but at least this one is available on DVD (why is the BBC so stingy with selling DVDs when many of us can't catch the shows on TV for whatever reason?). Anyway, this is a pure delight from beginning to end, a perfect mesh of personable personality (i.e. Bill) and subject matter. It is intelligent, sensitive, beautiful, even profound. I only wish we could have more of it.
