This is the first professionally filmed Hicks performance. That its a tour de force should go without saying; ditto that its an(other) reminder of what was lost when Hicks died of cancer a few years later.

At this early stage Hick's act was more rooted in observational stand-up, with interludes of the politicised rantings that characterised his stupendous post-Gulf War 1 routuines, but was nevertheless infused with the eloquent anger that gave his work the resonance it still enjoys. Pure blinding genius.

Regarding the Denis Leary rip-off of Hicks at least three famous stand-up comedians have gone on the record stating they believe Leary stole not just some of Hicks' material but his persona and attitude. As a result of this, it is claimed that after Bill Hicks' death from pancreatic cancer, an industry joke began to circulate about Leary's transformation and subsequent success (roughly; "Question: Why is Denis Leary a star while Bill Hicks is unknown? Answer: Because there's no cure for cancer."

Bill Hicks spoke his mind on stage, without a single care in the world. And you had better not heckle him because you'd be knee deep in hot water. Sharp, intelligent, witty, harsh, and dangerously outspoken when it came to the mainstream. He was also hugely confident and charismatic. But he lacked a long life, having died in February 1994 at the age of just 32 from pancreatic cancer.

The 'Revelations' part of this DVD is of a somewhat toned down show recorded in London in 1992. It is a great document of his unique humour, his precise timing, and his amazing hold over an audience. While it feels like an evening out with Bill, he conveys his messages on smoking, Marijuana, LSD, the Kennedy assassination, Jesus, George Bush Snr, Marketing and Advertising, Marky Mark, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Rock Music, procreation, and other weird things such as pizza delivery, and his self created 'goat boy' - all according to the 'gospel' of Bill Hicks of course!

The other part of the dvd is an interesting documentary featuring many celebrities offering their tributes and memories of the man.

This is not your average stand-up comedian doing one liners. Far from that. I can describe it as opinionated dark humour. You need a fully open mind when watching and listening to Bill Hicks.

Recommended, but not for the easily offended!
