4.0 out of 5 stars The Bill as it used to be, 25 Sep 2005
By D. Evans "dantheman95" (Southport) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Maintaining the gritty, documentary feel of the first series, the second series of The Bill first broadcast in 1985, was the point at which the series started to become a hit with audiences. Featuring famous characters such as Jim Carver, Bob Cryer, Reg Hollis, and early favourites like Roy Galloway, this series is far superior to any of the episodes broadcast in recent years. Indeed in presenting a realistic look at modern Policing, the programme did not even kill off a regular until 1990, a far cry to today when several characters seem to die every year. The personal lives of the regulars is also less emphasised during this era, with the only real storyline to veer in this direction, being the divorce of DI Roy Galloway, and how this impacts on his role at Sunhill station. Fans of Burnside will be pleased to see him making an apperance, even if his name was Tommy rather than Frank back then. There is much humour to also be found in the series, particularly in the episode The Chief Super's Party, a party which Burnside decides to gatecrash. As with many other 1980's Police dramas, such as Bergerac, Juliet Bravo, and Dempsey and Makepeace, the early years of The Bill are fondly recalled by many fans, and this is certainly worth investing in.

The bill series 2...well i think that this wasent very good becuse of its 50minute running time, in this Burnside reapears twice in ringer episode 7 and chief superintendents party episode 12, and the only one worth watching for me is hostage and chief superintendents party, in hostage a man is on the loose with a shot gun, jim carver gives chase and sgt cryer, ted roach (Best charecter) Mike dashwood and Galloway are all fireing up there guns, the man takes a hostage and locks them both in an old people home, the gun man asks for cryer to come through and i will tell you this...at the end of hostage 4gun shots go off who is dead? chief superintendents party was also good as ted roach crashes his car into a fence by mistake and galloway is in deep trouble with the super
Not the best season for me maybe not even you there the only two best episodes in series 2.
