Product Description

CD Description
Sixth album from breakbeat techno mentalist Mike Paradinas and his follow-up to 1999's 'Royal Astronomy'. Featuring an old-skool sound harking back to his early releases 'Tango N'Vectif' and 'Lunatic Harness', it also breaks new ground for Paradinas by adding elements of contemporary genres such as UK Garage and Nu Skool Breaks. Includes vocal contributions from fellow Rephlex artist Mike Dykehouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dont believe that other review - this is a great IDM album, 23 Sep 2004

Mike Paradinas is up there with Aphex and Luke Vibert as one of the most inventive and funky electronic musik makers of the UK in the last 10 years

Where Squarepusher leaves you bewildered, U-ziq takes you back into the music, just when you feel it cant get any more unintelligible, it does, but then there's the melody, always the melody... This is a great album, of mashup garage and jungle beats with strong ambient themes and idm experimentations.

You can really hear the influence of Venetian snares in the drum programming, which Mike has acknowledged, but he never loses sight of the listener, always taking you with him cos each track is a journey..

Standout tracks for me are "Meinheld", "Grapenut" beats 1 and 2 and "Silk Ties". Given that the kings of the idm scene, Warp, can get away with releasing albums with just two great tracks (Vis the new LFO album) then this Uziq offering must be a classic? Great stuff!

1.0 out of 5 stars bad, 6 Feb 2004
By A Customer
mike's label (planet mu) is very satisfying, perhaps the most interesting experimental electronic label, but 'bilious paths' is a feeble release by a seriously over-rated musician.

mike paradinas makes a brilliant creative director but has never made any good music, ever.

hence the artwork for this release is nice, while the music is uninspired and has an irritating high end throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great progression for one of UK's best electronic artists, 8 Sep 2004
By M. Mcdonald (london UK) - See all my reviews

This is not the kind of album you just slip on the hifi and immediately fall in love with. It takes at least one more listen. If you like Aphex, V Snares, Plaid, Squarepusher you're in familiar territory, but unlike these artists, Mike Paradinas has gots the truly great melodies to go with the beats.

I read somewhere that some of these tunes are old ones he's been working on for ages. Oldies but goodies

Its a royal mash up of great ambient synth lines and full on drill core beats. Wicked.

Highlights for me are Meinheld and Grape Nuts Beats, I also love AC Merlin. He draws you in with the comprehensible and then makes it incomprehensible, and just you're wondering can i handle anymore of this crazines, some relief might be in sight.

I don't know what the other reviewer was on, but i like gardige/gabba/jungle/idm and this album is U-ziqs best so far.
