My 10 year old daughter wanted to learn to knit, but was struggling with the needles, because she only has limited movement in her right hand. So I thought that she might cope better with weaving. I chose this loom because it was inexpensive, and the kit seemed to contain all that was needed for a trial run.

The wooden frame is sturdy, and is clearly notched to enable easy threading of the warp threads. The kit also contains 2 wooden shuttles, a wooden comb and 2 metal pick up rods. 4 Small balls of wool in red, yellow, blue and green are also included. The frame is roughly the size of an A4 sheet of paper, big enough to produce an interesting piece of fabric (say for a dolls blanket or large patchwork pieces), but not too daunting.

The technique is very easy, but a clear simple illustrated instruction sheet comes with the pack, for those not familiar with this craft. My daughter got the hang of it very quickly and was soon able to work independently. She loves it, and has been working on it every night since it arrived.

So I am very pleased with this kit, it is good value for money and has introduced her to a new craft/hobby. The balls of wool provided are not overly generous (will need to buy some more soon), but overall it's an excellent starter kit at a good price.

The second loom I have purchased as a gift for a 11 year old girl who likes crafty things. Both times the gift has been a hit and much admired by other children. I was impressed that the loom arrived before the estimated delivery date. It's low tech, old fashioned good fun.

We bought two for our granddaughters (aged 5 and 8) and they have been a success.
Using the loom is a slow and methodical process (no high tech here) but it seems to occupy the girls for decent lengths of time, and if they lose interest they can always come back to it later - which they do.
Two comments; The wool tended to slip off the frame on the four corners, so we cut little grooves on the side to hold it in place.
And secondly we found it easier to thread it using the wooden pieces that the wool is wound on, rather than the wire needles, which are fiddly and just complicate the process.
Overall good value. Definitely glad we bought them.

My 7 year old daughter hadn't got a hope in hell of doing this. I have a loom as kid, so I know the basics. Every time I had painstakingly woven the first set of thread (using drawing pins to keep it in place) and started to weave the horizontal threads, The whole thing collapsed into tangled mess. Tried about 6 times. Tried adding more drawing pins. Eventually had a tantrum (me, not my daughter). Why produce something that is incomplete?

I had one of these as a child myself and was chuffed when I found you could still get them, I brought this for my daughter who loves knitting and sewing, she absolutely loved it and has made her own blanket. Fantastic and easy to do for any young girl or boy ;)

I really wanted to like this as it has had great reviews. However it is really badly designed. The notches are just not deep enough to hold the wool while you are trying to fiddle over and under each strand. They came off so many times even I gave up, never mind my daughter. Also the odd pieces of metal included are not only useless but are in fact bicycle spokes - what on earth!? I could have made one better.

This is a lovely starter kit for weaving and comes with everything you need. I have since then built my own bigger ones and use this one for smaller and finer weavings. I treasure it and it is in regular use.
