Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Helen Jones on 6 July 2011
My 3 year old son has an increasing love for his wooden railway, which is made up of bits and pieces from various brands and stores. His trains were constantly 'crashing' and 'breaking' and we were pretending to fix them over and over again, so when I spotted this repair shed it became top priority for his birthday.

I was worried that it was quite high in price, but it is worth every penny to us. He's had it for a week now and every train item we have in our set has been 'broken and fixed' over and over again. We already had a few 'workmen' from another set, and a couple now reside in the repair shed to fix our engines and carriages. The set doesn't come with repair men of it's own.

So what does the repair shed consist of?

It is a very solid building, brightly coloured with tools and shelves painted on the walls, oil spills painted on the floors and a 2 train tracks - each track accessed by it's own numbered door. There are 4 large barrels provided - 2 for outside and 2 which fit inside. The interior barrels have petrol pump wires attached to them, which we use to fill up the engine, or wash it (don't know that's what they are designed for). Two are labelled oil and two water.

Outside the shed, next to the barrels is a sign with sliding parts - one part for each half of the shed, which you can move to show whether the shed is 'in use' or 'empty'. My son loves choosing which shed to use and moving the sign. We have not found the sign to be flimsy, rather ours sticks slightly, but it's not been a great problem to us so far.

Also included is a roof with skylights. We don't use this as my son can't take it on and off (I've struggled as it's very stiff) but as the shed is in constant use, this is not a problem.

The product arrived with the shed in use sign broken, this was repaired with wood glue but has proven to be flimsy and has broken again.

My son dropped it within a day of having it (!) because he was holding it by the roof & the engine shed dropped. The bit of track which comes with it broke a little but I've superglued it & it's worked so far. It's definitely a toy which can't be 'thrown around' & requires big boy behaviour. My son absolutely loves it though & plays with it every day. He's a major train enthusiast (he's 3). The roof is a bit pointless & never goes on anymore.

A fun addition to a growing train set, encourages imaginative play, my son pretends he's a mechanic, servicing his trains. Well made and delivered well packaged.

perfect for grandson as he loves trains, and it fits perfectly onto his existing track. Would definitly recommend it for little train enthusiasts.
