This book is one of the commonest of the Biggles 'Air Police' stories. It has been printed in large numbers and is quite easy to find. There are 11 cases in all which mostly take place in England rather than abroad.
'The Case of the Lost Coins' takes Biggles,Ginger and Bertie to Albania to recover some valuable coins buried on an estate next to the coast.
'The Case of the Old Masters' demonstrates Biggles' ability to use his aeronautical knowledge to track an aircraft used in the smuggling of valuable stolen paintings.
'Mystery on the Moor' starts with Ginger on patrol over South Western England and coming across the landing of a suspicious aircraft.
'The Two Bright Boys' demonstrates the danger of home-made aeroplanes in the hands of novice pilots.
'Horace Takes a Hand' involves the frustrating of a clever attempted prison break.
'Biggles Learns Something' Tracking illegal landings at race-courses introduces Biggles to more ways for criminals to get about.
'Dangerous Freight' Biggles investigates the crash of a Dakota in France.
'A Routine Job' forces Biggles to tackle the growing drug trade and track down an unusual home-grown source.
'Dawn Patrol' sends the team on the drug-smuggling trail once more.
'The Trick that Failed' shows Biggles saving a young woman from a fate worse than death.
'The Case of the Early Boy' puts jewels at the centre of operations.
These 'Biggles' short stories are usually full of interesting ideas but lack the verve and thrills of the longer stories. They make for interesting reading as they form a plausible underpinning of the fuller adventures experienced by the four main characters in the post WW2 period.
