I bought this as a natural alternative for descaling the coffee maker. Because it is food grade citric acid, I know that if there is any left in the coffee maker it isn't going to hurt anyone.

Two teaspoons dissolved in water then following the manufacturers instructions works very well.

225g is the perfect size for this purpose, enough for a couple of years worth of descaling.

Citric acid is really handy for a number of things - as other reviews say it is a great descaler for a kettle, and therefore for anywhere where you have limescale build up. I have started using in the washing machine instead of a very expensive brand of tablet to make my washing machine last longer with! I would recommend about 20g. I do NOT understand why descalers are so expensive when a lot of them must have this as a primary ingredient.

It is also an essential ingredient for bathbombs - about 1 part to 2 parts bicarb of soda.

I started using it when I wanted to make shedloads of cheap sherbert - again with bicarb, as of course lots of sugar. It is also a good ingredient for adding 'lemon' flavour with no effort and tiny cost as so little is needed.

My favourite use is as a preservative to natural soaps etc. I make some hand wash with soap nuts and without the citric acid it went mouldy very quickly. With citric acid it is still not mouldy a month later!

I would recommend this size to start, once you find so many uses for it buying in bulk makes this a very economical household item.

I bought this because I make my own lemonade and elderlfower cordial. I also use it if I run out of lemons to stop some fruit going brown once cut. It's hard to find in the shops so this was a convenient way to purchase it.

It can also be used as a cleaning agent.

This citric acid was purchased for use as a descaler for our Gaggia bean to cup coffee machine. It replicates the manufacturer's descaling powder exactly and should be used in the same ratio of descaler/water as the Gaggia descaler. It works perfectly and at lower cost. Highly recommended.

Ordered this item to clean an Avent Bottle Steamer. I ordered the product on Monday and it arrived promptly on Wednesday! The citric acid has done a fantastic job of descaling the steamer, it's like new.

I bought this to descale various things, including a Gaggia bean to cup espresso machine that was destined for recycling as the recommended descaler simply wasn't touching the built up deposits. Tried vinegar and although it meant the machine would function, the lingering after taste was unpleasant and impossible to eliminate despite repeated flushes.

A teaspoon in the kettle has brought it back to pristine and possibly in the process makes it more efficient. Same story with a vegetable steamer which now heats up markedly faster.

At a fraction of the cost of the manufacturer's descaler this is (in my case) more effective, perfectly safe to use and leaves no residue. Will definitely be back for more.

The citric acid and Camden tablets arrived very promptly. I can't write any more as I am going to use them to make elder flower cordial , which I hope to do when the flowers are blooming in a week or so.
