Amazon.co.uk Review

Rupert Murdoch is a man about whom almost everyone has an opinion. To write about his approach to business with any objectivity would, therefore, seem to be a tall order. Fortunately for Stuart Crainer, the publisher's brief for this volume was to write about what makes Murdoch successful. Crainer has a string of business books to his name, and his experience shows through in the command he exercises over his material here.

After a few brief biographical notes, Crainer sets out to describe in 10 chapters, 10 "secrets" of Murdoch's business success, beginning with his ability to "Go with the Flow"--in other words, to be pragmatic--and ending with "Drive the Company", a short essay on the man's incredible energy. Through it all, Crainer's fast-paced narrative ably disguises the Old Testament arbitrariness of the publisher's format (why 10 "secrets" rather than 12?). Crainer's technique in many of these chapters is to hold Murdoch's management practice up against the theory of one or another management guru. Amongst others, he invokes Hamel on strategy, De Geus on corporate longevity and Warren Bennis on leadership. This eclectic approach should, perhaps, come as no surprise from the man who brought us The Ultimate Book of Business Gurus. And Crainer's tell-it-like-it-is prose style makes for easy reading for the busy manager. --Nigel Shardlow --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is a really good book introducing this world famous media tycoon. His ability to work very hard and his drive to be extremely successful have led many people to fear and envy. I am amazed by his speed of acquisition and his ruthless yet magnificient way of conquering the world of media. A quote from Rupert Murdoch 'The winners will be those who capitalize quickly on changing opportunities. The challenge is to move early and innovate often.'

He is a remarkable man of international identity. Making massive deals around the world and making high risk bet even before they pay off are his ability to foresee future success.

In short, I would recommend this book to whoever that has an interest in successful bussiness man. It is an ideal book for bed time reading for those who lack of time to pore over other of his thicker biographies.

I expected some more 27 Oct 2000
By "saran_web" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is very generic on how Rupert Murdoch operates, I was expecting more specifics. The book is good though, if you just grab the 10 steps the author mentions.

Concise and Adequate 26 Dec 2001
By Mohit Kapur - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I generally do not like reading thick books. This book is not only ideal for the busy executive, but also for that "lazy student" who has much beter things to do in life. At the end of each chapter, the key take-aways are summarized. It is interesting to note that Murdoch can compromise ethics and journalistic integrity to further his business. He also has a nack of thinking and planning lightyears ahead of his rivals, and can stoop at any level to keep the Chinese happy (BBC, Critical Reporting, scrapping Chris Patten's autobiography et all).
Nothing too exciting.. 14 Feb 2010

A quick read with plenty of decent points but nothing that you wont find elsewhere. If youve read plenty of business books skipping this one wont hurt you. If you havent read many then this is a not bad easy read.
