This book, along with others in the series, concentrates on the phonics aspect of the make up of words. Both my kids have loved this book, it has taught them how to construct words as well as how to decide what a word is, whilst following a very funny story at the same time. I have to admit that I'm very fond of the book too - a great fun way to learn words. The only problem now is that they want another book just the same! Luckily there are a number of other books in the series. Highly recommended.

about a pig who gets the opportunity to dig for.......hmmm.... what.....exactly?

16 high quality shiny pages, in the popular 2-page spread format with endearing illustrations throughout and 3 sturdy fold-out flap opportunities. Numbered pages.

Simple text with plenty of repetition of words, e.g.:-

'Big Pig gets a letter.
Big Pig sees the hat.
There is a map in the hat.
Big Pig runs to Fat Cat.
"Fat Cat! Look at the map in this hat."
"It shows where to dig, Fat Cat."....'

Big Pig is excited about the dig, but as Fat Cat is feeling lazy, he sets about it himself! So what does Big Pig find......eventually .....and why is Fat Cat a bit smug?

From Usborne Publishing, this super book is part of a series of 12.
This delightful educational series is further enhanced by the little yellow duck `hiding' on each page - young children love to find him on every turn!
Also, the books have a `familiar feel`, with the presence of characters from the other titles in the series, further aiding recognition skills and confidence building.

The inside cover page describes `About Phonics' in relation to this specific title and the inside back cover has the list of words used in the text, broken down into their phonemes.

We have 8 usborne readers phonics books and I am sorry to say this one is a disappointment when compared to the others. The best "goose on the loose" and "frog on a log" are a pleasure to read with the words rhyming throughout. This book by comparision struggles... don't buy.
