Epic ! 1 Nov 2011
Format:Audio CD
Why has no-one reviewed this album?

I`m listening to it now and the songs , dare I say it (yes I do) are imo better than those on Cartesian Dreams (which in itself is excellent).
The soaring vocals and superb playing are self evident and the material is stellar (I kept 10 of the 12 tracks).
Excellent songwriting , hooks that just won`t quit , riffage - in short rock at its best
Rather like the W.E.T album , an essential buy.

Yes, I know that they are very old fashioned, but when it comes to 80's style hairy rock and power ballads, well you just have to dust off the old air guitar and join in when the House Of Lords get it on! And get it on, they sure 'nuff do on this, their latest offering - and does it do what it says on the tin? OH YES, YES, YES!
I know they get slated for their presentation, but when you get the big chunky chords and riffs on the opener (and title track)start up, you cannot help but put a big grin on your face and start swaying to the sound - it's an absolute belter - should get played plentifully on Planet Rock and that's for sure!
There are no surprises lurking in the 57 minutes that cover the 12 tracks on display here which range from the standard eighties sounding rock to the power chords of some rather tasty ballads but, that's not to say that it doesn't get it's message across because the workmanlike band that is giving you their all here are never going to set the planet alight BUT what they do is honestly transacted and all the better we are for that! And while there are no other tracks quite as powerful as the opener, they are all very well recorded and add up to a fine, fine album.
So, buy your copy, get your air guitar out, crank the volume up to 11 and get down to some good old fashioned rock 'n roll - you will NOT be disappointed!

Big Money -- Big Sound 28 Sep 2011
By C. Gunn - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This album continues with the same big sound HOL had been generating on their last few albums.
You just have to crank this up in the car with the windows rolled down!
I still like the first HOL CD the best (w/ Giuffria and Cordola), but this album does NOT disappoint.
My only complaint is the use of a bit of profanity in the first track -- just a little bit out of character for HOL.

NOTE: The CD jacket and insert list the title of track #8 as "Run", but the CD-Text information lists the track as "Run For Your Life".

"House of Lords" raise the creative bar even higher with "Big Money" 21 Oct 2011
By Nikiforos V. Skoumas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
"Big Money" is the brand new, 8th studio album by American pomp melodic rock band "House of Lords" standing also as their fifth studio offering since their reformation. "Big Money" features the established line up of bandleader/singer James Christian, guitar shredder Jimi Bell, drummer BJ Zampa and bassit Chris McCarvil.

Over the past years "House of Lords" seem to have established a formula of their own, enabling them to come up with quality album after album: A handful of straightforward melodic hard rockers, contrasted by an equal number of pomp-AOR compositions plus a couple of power ballads. And that is very much the recipe for "Big Money".

The album opens on the majestic "Big Money" featuring some pretty inventive/sarcastic lyrics by James Christian, followed by the epic "One man down" once again addressing the phenomenon of war (which has also been a key topic on their previous albums). "Someday When" is another song inspired by battle themes, yet its subtle chorus and its keyboard-driven nature more than serves for a promo-video. "First to cry", "Hologram" and "Seven" are the album's catchier tunes, characteristically up-tempo featuring infectious guitar melodies and unforgettable choruses. "Livin' in a Deam World" is one of the most intriguing songs on the album, bound to bring to mind Rainbow's "Gates of Babylon".

So with "Big Money" you get the same great team and the same songwriting approach that made such success out of the preceding three albums. Only this time the members take it to the next level by calling for reinforcements; these being none other than Swedish guitarists Rob Marcello ("Danger Danger") and Tommy Denander ("Houston") contributing additional lead guitar parts. Having the two melodic rock masters shredding on the songs definitely adds a lot to the final product that is "Big Money" and you probably be able to tell the difference between their distinct styles. "Big Money" is another bright chapter in the Lords' career following such albums as "World up Side down", "Come to my Kingdom" and "Cartesian Dreams", possibly surpassing artistically the latter two.

Great album from these guys once again.. 31 Oct 2011

It's too bad that pretty much every House of Lords album usually gets ignored by the general public because they do put out very solid releases every time. "Big Money" proves this as James Christian has never sounded better and he's firmly in control thru out this entire album. For those of you who love melodic hard rock, this is most definitely the album for you!! :-)
