Based on the inspiring true story that captured the hearts of people across the world, the rescue adventure Big Miracle tells the amazing tale of a small town news reporter (John Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Drew Barrymore) who are joined by rival world superpowers to save a family of majestic gray whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle.
Local newsman Adam Carlson (Krasinski) can’t wait to escape the northern tip of Alaska for a bigger market. But just when the story of his career breaks, the world comes chasing it, too. With an oil tycoon, heads of state and hungry journalists descending upon the frigid outpost, the one who worries Adam the most is Rachel Kramer (Barrymore). Not only is she an outspoken environmentalist, she’s also his ex-girlfriend. With time running out, Rachel and Adam must rally an unlikely coalition of Inuit natives, oil companies and Russian and American military to set aside their differences and free the whales.

This DVD tells the true story about mankind assisting a small pod of whales to escape from the clutches encroaching ice of impending winter in Alaska. It is gentle, educational and enjoyable, and there is a surprising intervention of help from the Russian Navy. This is indeed a DVD that is suitable for viewing by all ages.

I remember the 'true story' back int he 1980s whn a family of wales were trapped by ice. The film stays very true to the real story but with a little bit of artistic freedom to make the story work for film. Very entertaining, uplifting and something you can watch witht he whole family.

This film is just so lovely, it's gorgeous locations and heartwarming story can't fail to put a smile on your face.
Children under about 5 or 6 probably won't understand this film enough to enjoy it but my 7 and 9 year old boys loved it and we can't wait to see it again on Blu-ray.

I expect more this movie, but it's a good movie to watch with the family, specially with the childrens, in a cloudy day eating a popcorn.
Just more a thing... the subtitles these movies (region free) that have "portuguese", it is the Portugal and not Brazil. There is some diferences between it, but it's possible to watch... This is a little tip for others consumers, like me, that wishes buy in the amazon.uk.

this was a very lovely film and i will have to say its got to be the best film i ever seen in my life.
the part i loved about ii is where nearly every one was trying there best to help free them whales from the ice.
but i really did feel sorry to here that baby die :(
but i am very glad that the Russian's helped the whales to get out of the ice and in to the open seas.
big Miracle is the must best and heart loving film ever.
i would 100% recommended this big Miracle true story film to a family and schools and friends.

This is an amazing movie & perfect for a family to watch together. My daughter is a big animal lover so this suited her perfectly. It is an edge of the seat movie & quite sad in one part. Would definitely recommend this film.

So heart warming it will melt the polar ice caps!
This was a great family film. It allows older audience members to remember the past and teaches young ones about the environment and conservation.

The film was very nice . It had nice characters in theire with good personalities. They were in the Antartic trying to rescue three whales one of them died , the baby whale died. Read more
