This is a European repackaging of the 1981 disc "Road Show Blues" by Belgium based Music Avenue Records. What another reissue?!? Yes, but if you don't have "Road Show Blues," "The Adventures of John Mayall," or "Lost and Gone" you should really pick this one up. Recorded in mid-1980 in LA, this disc shows Mayall at his best. He and his backing band had already played hundreds of shows in the past touring year, and they form a remarkably tight unit. Mayall's harmonica sizzles! James Quill Smith's guitar is somewhat subdued, but he plays against Mayall's harp with some very tasty licks (see "Mama Talk to Your Daughter"). He does break out for a fine solo performance in "A Big Man" playing against Kevin McCormick's solid bass line. The live version of "Mexico City" is where Smith shows his chops. McCormick & drummer Soko Richardson compliment each other in "Mexico City's" jazzy break, morphing into a Be-Bop piece. And the Maggie Parker penned "Road Show" has Maggie in a great duet with Mayall. Altogether a good CD to have (unless, of course, you already own "Road Show Blues," etc.).
