As a full time granny carer of 3 small grandchildren (1-3 years) this book has proved time and again to be a marvellous discussion/'talking about' product. We got it from the library originally then it proved so popular that we have bought it. The categories are clear and the individual children can dip into whatever interests them from the contents. Each page is superbly and clearly illustrated with drawings and diagrams but without too much clutter. On a basic level, the children enjoy talking about the machines and what they do and with older children the operational processes can be discussed with help from the graded print (large to smaller, detailed labels). Specific vocabulary (e.g. excavator, harrow, curtain sider truck) is used throughout so that children learn the right words from the start (along with the adults!) Interesting facts are included without overloading the script or cluttering the pages. The vehicles included range from diggers to planes from racing cars to tractors so all interests are covered! Many a happy, peaceful time has been spent curled up on the sofa dipping into this superb book!

This is one of my 3 year old's favourite books for the moment. He's very into tractors, diggers, cranes, helicopters and vehicles in general. This book is so well illstrated, comprehensive and well explained. I think it will be a favourite for quite some time. Seeing as he's only 3 I mostly just look at the pictures with him and explain rather than read the accompanying text as it's mostly too advanced for him. I think he'll still be into this book at age 6 or even older. Definitely one for the bookshelf!

This book is dearly loved by my three year old Grandson. He was constantly getting this book out at the library, so we decided to buy it for him. He loves the pictures and he knows what each machine does. An excellent book with lovely large pictures, a must for young lovers of Big Machines.

lots of good clear pictures, plenty of written and picture detail. good for any child who is mad for anything with an engine in it.
