As a full time granny carer of 3 small grandchildren (1-3 years) this book has proved time and again to be a marvellous discussion/'talking about' product. We got it from the library originally then it proved so popular that we have bought it. The categories are clear and the individual children can dip into whatever interests them from the contents. Each page is superbly and clearly illustrated with drawings and diagrams but without too much clutter. On a basic level, the children enjoy talking about the machines and what they do and with older children the operational processes can be discussed with help from the graded print (large to smaller, detailed labels). Specific vocabulary (e.g. excavator, harrow, curtain sider truck) is used throughout so that children learn the right words from the start (along with the adults!) Interesting facts are included without overloading the script or cluttering the pages. The vehicles included range from diggers to planes from racing cars to tractors so all interests are covered! Many a happy, peaceful time has been spent curled up on the sofa dipping into this superb book!

This is one of my 3 year old's favourite books for the moment. He's very into tractors, diggers, cranes, helicopters and vehicles in general. This book is so well illstrated, comprehensive and well explained. I think it will be a favourite for quite some time. Seeing as he's only 3 I mostly just look at the pictures with him and explain rather than read the accompanying text as it's mostly too advanced for him. I think he'll still be into this book at age 6 or even older. Definitely one for the bookshelf!

My little boy has had this book for 3 years and has hardly ever put it down, and even after 3 years of constant handling the book is in great condition. He's now 6 and loves the fact that he can read parts of it. He loves tractors, diggers and infact any kind of big machines! I cannot praise this book enough, well done Usborne yet again for encouraging my child to learn through something he loves.

Great illustrations, interesting text. Very informative. Covers a lot of machines. My boy is three years old and some of it is a little too technical for him for he still loves it. And he's growing with it.

I sat with my two year old Grandson and opened up this book. 'Wow!' was his first comment. Do I need to say much more? He is steeped in tractor knowledge and has been known to sit in his bed at 5.30am with a cup of milk, a bowl of dry cheerios and a copy of The farmer's Weekely! No - he is not from a farming family. This book is ideal as the pictures are bright and bold and he has an understanding of many of the attachments etc. But - of course - reading the text is for the future. Meanwhile we can happily discuss what is on every page.

My 2 year old son loves this book and we spend hours going through it. It's basic and colourful enough to keep him entertained and detailed enough for me so that i don't go out of my mind with boredom!
