Reviews

Ebenezer Scrooge gets the parody treatment from veteran writer/director David Zucker (AIRPLANE!, SCARY MOVIE 3) with this comedy starring Kevin Farley as a derisive documentarian (à la Michael Moore) who's visited by three ghosts intent on instilling the American spirit in the disillusioned filmmaker. Kelsey Grammer, Jon Voight, Leslie Nielsen, James Woods, and Dennis Hopper co-star.

1.0 out of 5 stars Someone paid to have this film made???? 18 July 2011
Format:DVD
What utter drivel. I'm not sure what category it falls into because if it was a comedy it would surely have to be funny.
Just a bitter film suited to right-wing planks who can't think of anything better to do with their time. An intelligent response to Michael Moore's films would, of course, be beyond the abilities or intelligence of the scriptwriters of this 'movie'.

1.0 out of 5 stars If FOX News made a film, this would be it. 15 Jan 2010
By Saul
Format:DVD
Look at the cast! It MUST be good, right?! Wrong!!!

Don't be fooled by the fact it's directed by the (usually) brilliant David Zucker and stars Leslie Nielsen, Dennis Hopper and Kelsey Grammer. This movie is absolutely terrible, it's shockingly unfunny and unbelievably right-wing.

After a mildly amusing opening 10 minutes, the film descends into a barrage of awful political pot-shots at the American left. By halfway through this film you will be in no doubt that you are just watching cringeworthy right-wing propaganda. I wouldn't actually care about that if the film had some cleverly crafted jokes to back up its political statements, but it doesn't... AT ALL! You can only make the joke about Michael Moore being overweight and self-important once, but that's all this film is! Endless, really bad jokes about Michael Moore being fat and self-important.

To draw a comparison with another comedy that satirized American politics and succeeded, Team America. That film ripped on EVERYONE and did it brilliantly. No political views were left unmocked, and it actually made you laugh at your own political views, as well as others. Big Fat Important Movie is just a series of awful "gags" and right-wing statements. What makes it even more dire is the fact that it never backs up any of its statements, leaving it bereft of any integrity whatsoever.

Anyway, what I think this film was trying to do was to endlessly mock the political left to the point where it just seemed ridiculous, but it completely backfired in this instance. This film made me cringe, and not in a good way.

Oh yeah, Bill O'Reilly has a cameo in this film ...TWICE! Nuff said.

1.0 out of 5 stars FOX NEWS -THE MOVIE! 14 Oct 2011
Format:DVD
If you gave an infinite number of monkeys access to Fox News 24 hours per day, then trained them to bash random keys on a computer and cajoled them with limitless amounts of bananas, urging them to write a screenplay then I can assure you it would be funnier than this pile of unadulterated bat's guano. This is the lowest of the low. A Wayan's brothers film is like "The Seventh Seal" compared to this reactionary tripe. This is the Republican Party's idea of subtle satire and is about as funny as Oliver North in a revolving bow tie.
The Fox News Network is a slur on the whole of rational thinking humanity, this film is an insult to add to that injury. I really cannot say just how bad this movie is without resorting to base Anglo-Saxon language, so I shall stop here. AVOID.
