Book Description

28 April 2006 Crowood Autoclassics
The Austin-Healey 100 and 3000, in all their variants, were raced and rallied extensively and enthusiastically from the very beginning in the early 1950s. For over ten years, big Healeys, from the 100/4 to the 3000 Mark III, were a force to be reckoned with on the track - at Sebring, Le Mans, in the Mille Miglia and in club competition - and, particularly, on the rally stage. Later, the Jensen Healey too was raced by a small, but dedicated band of drivers. This book looks at the competition history of these remarkable sports cars in rally, race and record attempt, including the competition history of many individual cars and all the 'works' cars. This carefully researched title sheds new light on the still-glittering glories of the Big Healeys.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not complete 5 Nov 2006
By Daniel J. Hoffman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Having been an Austin-Healey enthusiast since age 9, having owned my 3000 since 1969 and having pitted for one of the factory cars in SVRA I am above average Healey nut.

I am always adding to my collection of Healey books but lately most "new" books are just a reissue of old Healey information. This book does have new information on the competition Healeys but is not complete. Its primary coverage is for the Healeys racing in England with little to no coverage to those that raced on the other side of the Atlantic. Having close ties to the owner of UJB140 (the 1960 Sebring practice car)that was purchased after the 1960 Sebring race, I was disappointed there was no mention of it or the sister practice car UJB145. There were 5 cars prepaired for the 1960 Sebring race by the factory and all five were sent to sebring, three for the race and two for practice. The one Sebring car, UJB143 renumbered to DD300 was mentioned quite often but alas no mention of its two sister cars UJB140 which is still raced in SVRA and UJB145 which is used in car shows in southern Ontario. Overall a very good book but lacking in totality from my standpoint.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo, John! Another Good Read by John Baggott 13 Aug 2006

I like this book because the author, John Baggott has taken what could have been a dull subject, and through a combination of great period photos and enjoyable text, presents a very good history of Austin Healey race and rally cars. This book primarily covers the "big Healeys" like the 100, 100 six, 3000, and later Jensen Healey models (both factory and privately owned racers). Detailed histories are given on many individual cars- some of them live several lives, being raced, wrecked, rebuilt and restored, many times over! Austin Healey fans and historic racing enthusiasts will find this book a welcome addition to their reference library.
