Ben has really big eyes, and he has to start wearing glasses. He's not happy because all his friends have normal sized eyes. But after he has to wear sunglasses in the summer time he feels better about wearing his normal glasses. He realises that it doesn't matter too much how you look, it's how you feel inside that's important.
About the Author
Neil Irani published his first children's book in 2009. He has published a second book in early 2010 and now has a further four books which are currently being illustrated in time for the Frankfurt Book Fair in Oct 2010.

I had a recommendation to try this author so I bought this and Two Robots. My three year old loved them both and so I had to pass on the recommendation.
Big Eye Ben describes a little boy who finds out he must wear glasses at school but is saddend and embarrassed when his school friends make fun of him. Of course the story has a happy ending and this makes it quite a useful read as well as an entertaining one. It is well written and beautifully illustrated.

Big Eye Ben is beautifully illustrated and well written.
It was immediately attractive to my five year old daughter who enjoyed the pictures while I read her the words and at the end, she quickly understood the moral of the story.
The characters were real enough to capture a child's imagination and the larger size made it easy for both parent and child to see at the same time.
Having read it once, it was frequently requested on subsequent evenings making it a popular choice amongst many other children's books we have at home.
