Welcome to Big Eden, Montana where artist Henry Hart heads home from the big city to tend for his ill grandfather. He's still pining after his hunky high school crush, but Pike Dexter's got his eye on Henry and the whole town is rooting for him. This classic gay romance is still like a warm favorite blanket even after we first saw it nearly a decade ago. Three reasons to buy this film: 1) a gay classic, "Big Eden" is essential; 2) you can't get more wonderfully romantic; 3) it's fun to watch these two guys fall in love. Personal note from the vendor: "Big Eden" is one of those rare feel-good movies that stay with you for a long time. Features: bonus footage (deleted scenes hidden as Easter eggs), pictorial soundtrack, cast & crew interviews, recipes, chapter stops and more hidden features; behind-the-scenes short documentary; audio commentary with director. Most 'Gay Cinema' seems to deal with one of three main themes - being a drag queen; living with HIV/ dying of AIDS related illness; or dealing with an often painful/ traumatic coming out - first love scenario. All very worthy, but getting a bit boring quite honestly.

So how refreshing to see Big Eden. The film concerns a successful (in terms of career, not love) artist, Henry Hart who is asked to return to his small home town in rural Montana - Big Eden - to help with his sick grandfather. He is unwilling to return in part because of his successful career, but in truth he uses this as an excuse not to go back so as to avoid painful memories. Of course he does return and so begins a new awakening for him, though perhaps re-awakening would be a better term to use.

Having returned to Big eden he finds that the focus of his adolescent first, an un-requited love, has also returned to town with his two sons. He also strikes up a re-aquaintance with the painfully shy Pike, a local Native American storekeeper. Henry Hart re-adjusts to the slow and easy-going pace of life in Big Eden where people are just busy being nice and helpful to each other.

The story develops and different aspects of the different characters emerge each with their own concerns and complexities. Henry slowly realises that the concern people have for him is not born out of a need for gossip, but genuine affection. He eventually manages to put the past behind him and finds love in probably the most unexpected quarter.

Ok, so it's probably not like real life because in real life the lovely group of men who hang around Pike's store would be more likely to beat Henry up than embrace him as a member of their community.

This is a fantastic film (5 stars) and I really hope that this director would make more films like this in the future. The music is wonderful and the action, photography and the whole cast is sewed together like a beautiful quilt. It completely takes on a new meaning of our sexuality. This story is full of optimism, love, laughter and friendship and I highly recommend this film to both gay and straight audience. When love speaks out, it transends all human beings no matter what their sexualities are. I hope this film will inspire many loving spirits ("People who need people are the luckiest people") and eventually people in our community would accept broader understanding of attraction, acceptance and love like Big Eden.

From the start there is the feeling with this film that it is made by a whole group of people who really care about it. 'Big Eden' is a kind of humane never-never land, where people really seem to care about one another and where the question of whether you're gay or straight is irrelevant. There are charming surprising scenes, where people you would least expect it from display amazing sensitivity. Ayre Gross plays the principal protaganist Henry Hunt - his acting is delicate, detailed, credible - but the characters and the acting are generally a joy. All against a backdrop of the stunningly beautiful Montana landscape. Don't tell me that the makers of Brokeback Mountain had not seen this film before they made theirs! Anyone who had their eyes opened by that bigger budget, more highly publicised film, will certainly love this one.

Having just watched this film I would strongly reccomend it to anyone who enjoys watching good acting, marvellous scenery, a really good storyline. It may not please everyone, having a gay storyline, but to those of you with an open mind it is a film that you will truly enjoy, and what I found most of all it is one of those films that really has a "feel good factor" a film that you can just sit back and really enjoy. So don't be predudiced just go ahead and enjoy.

I love that movie.
The story is beautiful, and it's just the way things ought to be in the real life !
If you are single like me, maybe this movie will give you the strength to carry on searching for the right "one" ! Sometimes, he's closer than what we may think !
This movie is funny and very moving.
If you 're fed up with negative gay movies, buy this one, I think it can change your opinion upon gay love !
A touch of BrokeBack Mountain... but funnier ! (yes I know that the Ang Lee's movie isn't fun at all !)
This is simply so much love !

I found this film by chance, browsing through Amazon "lists" and I am so glad I did! This is truly one of the best films I have ever watched! (This is also the first time I have felt the need to write a review on Amazon!)
The story is beautiful (everyone should live in a community like Big Eden); the scenery (and cinematography) is breathtaking (hoping one day to visit Glacier National Park, Montana) and you really care about the characters! I wanted to find out what happened in the end but I didn't want the film to end!
Will now go and search for anything else by the writer/director Thomas Bezucha (who was a gem in the interview feature) and stunning native american actor Eric Schweig.
This DVD will now stay in my collection! Thank you Amazon for a truly great recommendation!
