Synopsis
In this steamy, spicy mystery a prosecutor is sent to New Orleans to investigate police corruption. All the evidence points to a Cajun detective she falls in love with immediately, and though the trial forces him temporarily off the squad it doesn't stop him from investigating the case or from seeing her.

1.0 out of 5 stars SCENE MISSING, 24 May 2004
By A Customer
Great movie. Except that in the latest edition on DVD (released March 2004), the last scene before the end-titles is missing. I suspect they left it out on purpose, so they could save money producing it on a single layer-disc. Bad thing is, the scene is essential for the movie to make sense.

DON'T BUY THIS VERSION!

1.0 out of 5 stars missing scene is very irritating, 15 Jul 2004
By Book Addicts Book Group "So many books so lit... (bookaddictsbookgroup.com and empireofthecat.com) - See all my reviews
Well the other reviewer is correct in that there is indeed a scene missing from this DVD.

I am very disappointed by this and it makes the end of the movie seem kinda strange, and doesnt really make sense.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE STORY THEN DON'T READ THE NEXT BIT AS IT GIVES AWAY THE ENDING, BUT I AM JUST TRYING TO EXPLAIN WHAT IS MISSING!

There is a scene in the movie (at the end) where there is an explosion and the main characters are involved. Then suddenly the music starts and the credits start and the main characters have obviously just got married but it makes no sense and there is no explanation of what happened after the explosion or how they got there!

I just checked the video and there is a whole other scene after the explosion where Denis Quaid is in hospital and Ellen Barkin comes to visit and talk about the case and he proposes. This whole scene is missing from the DVD.

WHY WHY WHY

The thing that really gets me is that if you weren't familiar with the film you wouldn't realise this was missing, you would just think it had a funny ending!

How many other films do they do this with and not let on?

Signed

Very unhappy DVD customer

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible DVD version of a great 80's film, 19 Nov 2006
Cutting the final scene was idiotic! The thriller element was only ever a vehicle for the romance to which you're now ROBBED of a satisfying conclusion.

Skip this atrocity until it's re-issued whole - which it's bound to be - the seduction scene between Quaid / Barkin is consistantly voted one of the best 'sex scenes' on film.

Menawhile borrow the complete (VHS) version if you have a way to watch it & try the soundtrack or even better visit New Orleans itself...

fabulous film, this edition completely omits final scene before credits (essential to plot), no extras and not wide screen - try and find un-mutilated copy.
