Outstanding! 26 Mar 2007
I wouldn't have known Ray Brooks from Adam before watching this. There is no doubt he carries the show, as the charismatic cheeky chappie, gambler.

There is an unusual mix of light and dark comedy, and little touching domestic scenes. The result is you get to know all the characters intimately.

As well as a fantastic piece of entertainment, it is also a worth study of a gambler.

Even the theme tune is first rate.

Whilst the censors have awarded a 12 certificate, do be mindful it is targeted at an adult audience, and gets more challenging as the series progresses. I would recommended Big Deal to anyone 14yrs up.

Brilliant series!! 22 Sep 2006
I loved this series when it first came out way back in 1984. Ray Brooks was perfect as gambler Robbie Box: trying to balance starting a new life with his girlfriend Jan and her daughter; trying to build up enough money to 'come clean' with the Taxman; helping out his mates; trying to steer clear of the local Mob boss; and gambling... and lots of it! Bearing in mind that Robbie's game of choice is poker, which has become a rising phenomenon over the last few years and the fact that Ray Brooks is back in the public eye with his turn in Eastenders, this is a timely release and well worth a watch! Don't be put off by the fact that it was made 22 years ago, I watched it with my two sons aged 14 and 16 and they loved it. Cant wait for the BBC to release the Second (and final) series!!!

Great series for anyone who likes a bit of the down-at-heel in London stuff. Wry and pretty accurate really - better than Minder although in similar terrain. Well written, well acted, nicely filmed. A good job well done.

This seems to have acquired the status of "forgotten gem" but I really do reckon that the other two series of this deserve a release. It hasn't even had a repeat on satellite telly for well over a decade, so far as I can tell. So - c'mon. let's have the unreleased episodes. It's a trip down memory lane for the current generation of "phew, the kids have left home - finally got a bit of time / money" punters so surely Amazon should set about seperating them from their cash! So get to it, Amazon, rattle some cages and get series two and three on the shelves NOW!!!

Recommended.
