Big country were always the type of band that could rock with the best of them. This DVD pretty much sums up all there major work which spanned 2 decades until the sad demise of front man Stuart Adamson.

All the classics and accompanying videos are here with particular favourites such as Steeltown, Where the rose is sown and Harvest home included.

If like me you are aufait with Big Country you will know that this DVD is probably the only one you will need (barring the excellent final fling, concert DVD)to get a comprehensive feel for what the band was and is about.

Buy, sit back and be reminded of how great a band Big Country were, and how criminally ignored they were by the British music press.

Enjoy.

This DVD release was executively produced by Big Country's manager Ian Grant. It collects together 22 original promo videos, spanning 1982's `Harvest Home' through to 1999's `Perfect World'.

The clips range from standard performance videos to the band starring in short films based on the lyrics and filmed in a wide variety of locations.

The `Harvest Home' video provided the first glimpse of the band on film. Depicting them in one scene wearing oil stained vests and manoeuvring their way past sewage pipes at a disused waste disposal site, as Allan Glen comments in his excellent new biography Stuart Adamson: In a Big Country, `Rio' it wasn't!

Among the highlights of the early clips are `Fields Of Fire', which depicts a battle scene from World War I, and `Wonderland' which is shot on snowy mountains, while `In A Big Country' finds them down in Dorset searching for treasure across land and sea!

There's a grainy black and white film (set in the 1950's) for `East Of Eden' and a US outlaw-inspired clip for `Look Away'. The `King Of Emotion' video was shot in the Australian outback, while `Peace In Our Time' includes footage from both Moscow and Washington!

Available sound options are Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and DTS 5.1 Surround. Duration is approx. 92 minutes and the DVD is NTSC 4:3 / Region Code 2,3,4,5. There are no extras. Overall this is a superb collection for any Big Country fan.

Full track list: Harvest Home, Fields Of Fire, In A Big Country, Chance, Wonderland, East Of Eden, Where The Rose Is Sown, Just A Shadow, Look Away, The Teacher, One Great Thing, One Great Thing (12" version), Hold The Heart, King Of Emotion, Broken Heart (Thirteen Valleys), Peace In Our Time, Save Me, Heart Of The World, Republican Party Reptile, Beautiful People, Fragile Thing (feat. Eddi Reader), Perfect World.

Nostalgic Videos for anyone who's really into Big Country 23 Mar 2003
By Tony Azzopardi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
This video compilation is very special for me. I used to see a lot of these vidoes in my teens when Big Country were really big. What nostalgia! Most of the vidoes for their best hits are really simple but effective. The most creative videos are the ones for Just A Shadow (My all time favourite Big Country track), East Of Eden, Hold The Heart, Broken Heart (Thirteen Valleys), Heart Of The World, Alone and Ships. My only disappointment is that no videos from the "Why The Long Face" album were included. However, this is a MUST for any hardcore Big Country fan, and a worthwile investment for followers of good rock music without pretentions. May Big Country's music live long.

nostalgia, but very refreshing nonetheless... 23 Dec 2005

As was stated in another review, this is like discovering some hidden gems, yes...

I wish I would have seen these when they were 1st run, (well, we all saw "In a Big Country" ad nauseum on MTV right?) but I think by the time they has released "Steeltown" I had stopped watching TV altogether, so... :P

I just want to add that it was refreshing as heck to see some old school music videos that focus on the band and the music instead of all that strobe-o-editing, matrix-like effects, &/or the too skinny model-running-down-the-alley-in-the-rain crapola.

They couldn't have made a better video for "Wonderland"...well, if they would have managed to animate the COVER of the 12 inch extended remix single of that song...

ahhh Stuart, close to the annversary of your death, this is bittersweet, to finally see these videos (and all of the concerts coming out on dvd) but we should be greatful they are. ( I know I am )

Must have 17 Mar 2004

This collection is ideal for Big Country or 80's fans in the States because most of them were never seen in America. To me they were like hidden tracks or things just discovered in the vault. The videos are like a machine that lets you travel back to your teen years. You can watch something new for the first time and feel those butterflies in your stomach because one of your favorite bands just released a world premier video. Some of the videos are kind of hokie, but weren't we all?
