I make lots of bags and I've found many methods used in this book to be extremely helpful, especially the corners and straps.

Just what I was looking for 7 Nov 2013
By Lindsay C - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I have been following Sara's blog for a few years now, and have used several of her sewing patterns. Since I always get compliments on my purses made from her designs, I was very excited to find out she was writing a book! "Big-City Bags" does not disappoint. The book is filled with really unique and stylish bag patterns for any occasion, from a dressy clutch to a diaper bag and everything in between. There are also some great tips for using purse hardware, adapting the patterns and how to choose interfacing. I have already picked out the first pattern I want to make!

Handmade bags that look store bought 1 Jan 2014
By CeLynn Peeler - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
If you are a visual learner, then you will love sara's patterns! I personally have a hard time when making bags,or any item really from a pattern, especially a pattern with few or no photos. After purchasing several patterns from Sara, resulting in beautiful bags that look store bough,I was excited to learn she was writing a book.

This book has a wealth of information listing the different types of interfacing by name and number,as well as the color of the label. there is also a interfacing conversion chart included for those outside the US,along with a brief paragraph about each type of interfacing.

One section discusses basic techniques of bag making, from installing zippers,to twist locks. This book has 12 modern and stylish bags/purses with instructions, and tips for making them. Although there are only patterns for the accent pieces, that is because you really don't need a pattern for the main parts of the bags as measurements for them are included in the cutting instructions for each bag.

I plan on making every bag/purse in this book at least once, but will probably end up making multiples, when my friends, and co-workers see mine! Thank you Sara for such a wonderful book, looking forward to the next one ;)

Very clear and precise directions and fun designs 22 Nov 2013
By nybookworm - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is an all-around excellent book. I have made several of Sara's bags before and am always impressed with the clarity of her directions and the creativity of her designs. Each time I do one of her bags, I learn a new technique or how to use a notion I didn't know existed. I especially like the fact that one can "steal" some features from one of her other patterns and insert it to create something that is very personalized. I feel my growth as a bag creater has been enormous from using Sara's directions and photos.

I am almost finished with my first project from this book and know I will move on to another and another.I highly recommend this for people of all abilities.

Awesome book! 13 Nov 2013

Great book with great patterns! I LOVE that she details the different types of interfacing and that there are techniques included for bag making. The pictures throughout the book of the bags are great, I love seeing them so I know what I am making and they are in color and *gorgeous*! These bags are also different and not all just variations, Sara is so creative! Deciding which one to start first is a tough decision!

Best Bag Book Ever. 1 Jun 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
First of all, Sara is one of the sweetest people in the entire world and her talent with sewing is incredible! She makes THE best bags. The only difference between Sara's bags and a designer bag, is that you are already familiar with the fabric!! She explains the anatomy of the bag, which is important when you are a beginner and making a bag for the first time. You need to have interfacing and other materials so the bag has shape and gives support. She explains the different hardware you can choose when making a bag, and gives you recommendations on where to get your supplies. She has 12 awesome projects in the book that she shares and explains how to make, ranging from itty-bitty to suitcase size! I will be honest and say this book is worth having to just look at the pictures! Her bags are that amazing, especially when she uses fabric designed by Tula Pink. She makes magic happen people. I haven't made a bag yet, and the idea is daunting because I have no idea what interfacing does, let alone which products I should use! She goes over all of that! She has a ton of pictures and graphics, along with the patterns, to explain the construction of the bag. At the beginning she explains the process she goes through from start to finish, while giving tips for different kinds of bags. She explains the difference between all the interfacing you can us, which is the best part for me, because I feel so overwhelmed in the store when I don't know which one to pick! This is a great book for a beginner and awesome to have if you already know how to make bags, because she has 12 bags you can make! The book is around the price for 2-3 patterns that Sara sells, so it's an awesome deal. Sara is a super sweet person and available if you have any problems, which is what makes this book worth getting. I can't wait to get started and start my own collection of really cute bags! Thank you Sara for producing such an awesome book for beginners all the way to expert bag makers!
