Product Description

Product Description

Never before have we had a candid account of what it's really like to be part of the cultural phenomenon that is Big Brother. Now entering its seventh year, Big Brother is an annual event on British TV. It generates a huge amount of press and shines a spotlight on the state of Britain today. But what do the producers really do? Have they got a hidden agenda? Do they edit to create characters? How do the media manipulate our opinions? Can they really make or break a star? And what do the contestants think? Do they feel used or do they relish the opportunity? What is life after the show like for them? Would they recommend it to others? Narinder Kaur, a former Big Brother contestant, has travelled the country speaking with past contestants from all series as well as with TV producers and the media. Now, for the first time, we hear their thoughts, in their own words. This is the truth behind the reality.

About the Author

Narinder Kaur was the first Asian ever to enter the most famous house in Britain. She went into the house in Series 2 and has remained firm friends with the series winner Brian Dowling as well as many other contestants. She now lives in North London. This is her first book.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty engaging stuff, 30 Jun 2007
It's always been a guilty pleasure of mine to watch Big Brother even though it's deemed a bit as tacky television. This book ticked off most of the questions I'd have liked answers to...the only downside not quite enough past contestants. I think Narinder is honest and believeable in her opinions and prose...I'd certainly recommend the book to anyone curious about contemplating getting on the programme as some of the former Big Brother people certainly offer some words of advice. A real insight from everyone involved in the making and breaking of Big Brother participants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Behind the Invasive eye!, 1 Aug 2007
By KAT "tatethegr8" (Kettering Northants) - See all my reviews
Big Brother: The Inside Story, written by Big Brother 2 contestant Narinder Kaur is an inside look into the Nations favourite Reality Show, and what started off as a mere social experiment has now become a huge once-a-year-extravignaser, that whether you love it or loath it has the the whole nation talking about it. Its the mother of all reality shows, spawning offspring such as Love Island, I'm a Celeb and many more...but what really goes on when the door slams shut behind the 14+ wannabe's that go in there ever year? The papers tell their story, Endemol tell theirs and when the series comes to its climax - do we care what happens to the faces that have become as familiar as our own families?

This book tells the story behind the Glitz and glamour of the show, what it really takes to get in, the rigorous audition process, the Talk Of Doom, the entrance, the eviction and the aftermath. Narinder Kaur, although not popular in the 2nd series has done herself proud with this book. She has not kept it all about her and her own experience but about what it is like for others. She interviewed ex contestants from series 1 to 7 and all have a different story to tell - but one theme is recurrent, Big Brother destroys lives, and the majority of those interviewed wish they'd never gone there. What I like about this book is Narinders honesty. She could have painted a bright glossy picture of fame success and celebdom but it doesn't happen like that. TV Criticts, Magazine Editors, Phychologists and even the Endemol Producers give their take, all tell a very different story. If you've ever wanted to know the Truth about the show then buy this book, its far from a literacy masterpeice, but it is the truth about the reality show from those who lived it. You might have a very different opinion of the show by the time you've read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what a BB fan wants, 20 Jun 2007
By H. Roberts "A FAN called Robert!" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I literally gobbled this book down in 2 days. It's fun, simple and addictive - just like the show. Narinder has done a great job in interviewing past contenstants and other people connected to the show like Endemol producers and journalists and we get a snapshot of the progression of BB through their eyes, and you feel like you get to see the whole story, not just the edited highlights. I now feel privy to the inside workings of the show when I watch this year's contestants.
In parts reading the book was just like watching BB; I wanted to discuss it with friends and shout at the contestants for their naivity. For example, Victor is just as brilliant and infuriating in print as he was on the show. You get to relive the high and low points of every series. If you love the show, you will love this book - guaranteed. Well done Narinder. Five stars from me.
