Disappointed 1 Nov 2008
Format:Spiral-bound
Slightly disappointing in that this an American book with lots of American references in the tests, for example I lost points for not knowing a list of American slang terms for money. In another test I lost points for not identifying cities in America represented by a number of dots. How many foreign readers could pin point British cities I wonder? The tests are a good mix of manageable and hard. The book is OK overall but I found the american leaning to the questions were affecting my scores and it is disappointing this wasn't made clear before I bought the book.

Ditto on the previous reviewer's sentiments.. how the first reviewer ever wound up reviewing this book I'll never know or want to. Remember, IQ scores are not a measure of your current functioning, but rather your potential to achieve in certain areas. Knowing your weaknesses (for example, spelling, where the first reviewer falls short)will enable you to develop strategies for overcoming. Knowing your strengths will also allow you to develop and pursue realistic goals in the areas that you can succeed.

...there are a couple of things you might like to consider. Firstly, it is LOADED with typos. This is very frustrating as it makes answering a good number of the problems impossible. Secondly, it is an American publication and as such calls for a good American general knowledge. Be prepared to answer the questions from the point of view of one from the Northern Hemisphere, as alternative viewpoints are ignored altogether.
Because of the above, it really does not do what it says on the tin, i.e. enable you to calculate your approximate IQ, but if you fancy having a go at a pretty good range of puzzles, then it's interesting enough.
