Product Description

Review

"Solid button configuration and control and a consistently strong signal. The best wireless controller available on PS2." -- PlayStation Max Magazine

Manufacturer's Description

Utilising radio signals rather than infra-red, the PlayFree Wireless Controller can operate without a line-of-sight to the receiver, which is plugged into the controller port on the console. The PlayFree has a range of up to 10 metres and operates on a radio frequency of 2.4 GHz. Switchable modulation of the frequency means that up to four PlayFree controllers can be used at the same time.

The PlayFree Wireless Controller features built-in vibration motors with on/off buttons to extend battery life and operates from 4x AAA batteries, giving up to 100 hours of continuous gameplay. The PlayFree Wireless Controller also features the new 4Gamers Soft Touch coating to bring a feelgood factor to the gaming experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth getting 21 Sep 2004
Got this as part of my partners birthday present along with a PS2.
Its really good, no wires to trip over and you can sit in your favourite armchair without having to pull the chair closer to the telly or using an extension wire. There's also no fear of the cat electrocuting herself!
The only weak point is that batteries do drain quite quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freedom at last! 10 Feb 2004
Fantastic! Thats the only way I can really describe this controller. For ages now I've been struggling with the cable of my old one as it was just too short to sit comfortably and using an extension cable meant I had 5 miles of cable which was just as annoying. BUT NO MORE!! Now I can sit comfortably and use the controller to my hearts content, there's no lag in response, it doesn't need line of site to the receiver and if you don't do anything for about 5 minutes it turns it self off to save battery but instantly starts working as soon as you press a button. Also it feels slightly larger than a standard controller and as I have fairly large hands that makes it more comfortable.
If you have similar problems with cables I strongly recommend this controller as "it does exactly what is says on the tin".

4.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for busy or large rooms 23 Mar 2004
By Steve J
I bought this Wireless Controller because my 2 year-old daughter kept triping over the original controller wire while my 9 year-old son was playing on the PS2. What a fantastic buy! My son can play without wires leading to the PS2. The reception and response is great and can't fault it. However, on some games when you need the "sensitive touch" it can be difficult to get it just right i.e. walking slowly near the edge of a drop. But I don't hold it against it.

4.0 out of 5 stars No complaints 9 Feb 2004
The product does what it says it is going to do. It has excellent wireless reception and can operate from at least 8 meteres away (as far as I have tested). The buttons are slghtly different to the normal controllers - particularly the left-hand key pad is not just up-down-left right but more like a circular disk, which I guess is supposed to allow more control over diagonal movement. The result, though, is that sometimes when you are trying to go straight up, you end up going up and slightly left or right. However, this is just a case of getting used to the new pad and doesn't detract from the product. Not cheap, but makes a big difference to maintaining the general 'neatness' of the PS2. Get one (or two) if you can afford to.
