Horse Racing Manager: Horse Lovers dreams answered!,
By Mr P M Clark (Littlehampton, W Sussex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Horse Racing Manager (Video Game)
Got the game yesterday and it is exactly what Horse racing lovers have dreamt of for yearsIn brackets I have included the games which feature the (relevant sections of this game) Great menu system, good sounds, nice graphics, quickly learnt, not as slow moving as many sims due to plethora of options and game modes. You buy a cheapie to start off, build stables, feeding bays etc, hire staff, a trainer, a jock, lad etc,-(Theme stable!!) then feed and groom and tend to your horse, then you can enter in races, you hire a jock and instruct him etc.(Stable Masters) At the races you can just watch, or just bet, or indeed ride the horse yourself.(G1 Jockey) There is Jumps, flat and trot, though if you select to play in the UK where we have no trotting, this option is not available, which is great for us brits, as the GB and Japan country game includes all the big races on all the great tracks... (theres a nice stable 30 miles west of Brighton on the market!!). You have auctions, claimers, sellers, top yearlings cost 500,000 and you only start with 150.000-(Good To Firm) Put Good to Firm/ Stable masters/Stable Manager/G1 Jockey, and several others together and you get HORSE RACING MANAGER Its got the lot, as when your horse is rated a certain rating you then join the live racing leagues on the net, enter your star horse for real money in races all day long Im sure after a few weeks there will be an ONLINE championship league, and regular real races daily, which ensures the game never finishes Everything is included, and the multiplayer is easily set up, and we can race our best across the net in seconds Well worth the £14.99, if you liked all the other games, this really has it all!! Well worth a buy if you like horse racing sims... They havent missed ANYTHING out, even the smallest thing like earplugs, and a goat for your runners companionship are included!

What a disappointment! This game does have some reasonable graphics but I feel is terrible in terms of its playability.Very few races and racecourses to choose from, ficticious horse, trainer and jockey names (hoorah for Stable Masters!), and a certain feel that this game was written by French developers (aargh, distances in metres not furlongs!) who have tried to be flash with use of graphics and sound but have missed the point in making a game that appeals to racing fans who understand a little about the sport of kings. My advice to anybody considering buying the game is to buy G1 Jockey for PS/2 if you want a game where you can ride a horse, or stick to Stable Masters for PC if you want a management game - ok, the graphics are not so good but the game sure is playable!

I thought this looked an absolute dream game. Train, Breed, Bet and even RIDE your horses. The sorry truth is that although you can do all of these things, the depth of the game makes it too difficult. For instance, if you train your horses and enter one in a race, the only way to watch the race is to actually ride your horse. This is very difficult and to be honest your horse could be Shergar and you would still finish way behind jenny the donkey from blackpool beach! Having said that, the graphics are very good and very realistic. I'm sure that if you play this game enough you could get into it. It is very detailed and a game for the total racing enthusiast.
