Product Description

Product Description

Modern-day London...

A group of eclectic characters once bankrolled the construction of a huge underground complex beneath the streets to use as a retreat in the event of nuclear war.

It is run by a supercomputer that can bend reality to its own ends.

None of them thought they would ever have to use it...
until the day came they did.

Welsh author A.J. Desmond takes readers down Alice’s rabbit-hole by the scruff of the neck and doesn’t let go until the very last page of this visionary science fiction novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 'thinking' person's science fiction 19 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An absolute gem of a book. I am a great fan of science fiction and expected just another mildly interesting computer goes mad story. It was certainly not 'just another' and was far more interesting than that, indeed it kept me enthralled throughout and never any moment of 'this is getting a bit boring'. It is not an 'action' story, although there are brief bits of that, the story revolves much more around the inter-actions of the main characters with each other as well as to a lesser extent with the computer 'brain' in the nuclear shelter who is slowly becoming 'aware' and exploring the possibilities of his/her/its life. The human characters at first seem somewhat cardboard cut-out and extreme versions of people we see all around us in the news and elsewhere but they develop and become much more interesting personalities as the story evolves with its twists and turns especially as we see the story progressing from each of the characters points of view. Mix all that with some very astute, and accurate, philosophical comments on the state of modern Society, politics and life in general (A J Desmond for Prime Minister anyone?) and we have a truly inspiring as well as an entertaining, and even humorous, story. Great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly funny Sci-fi 22 Jun 2014
By Yay!! TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
What's so good about it?

1. It has the dry humour of the infamous "yes minister" tv series.
2. As it introduces you to each character it makes astute observations on the political and social landscape of our insane world - but with the dark humour of yes minister series.

It's a gem. Sci-fiction with a deep, dark secret.. its true and funny. It's a combination of all those things barristers use in court to dissect a witness and destroy them. It uses every last critical thinking and logical fallacy to show up our era of political correctness and nonsense that defines our age.

And every other paragraph makes you laugh out loud.

This book will totally blindside you... be prepared.
