I bought this book to help me and my colleagues write better and more consistent tenders (largely with public sector invitations to tender in mind). The book is very thoughtfully structured and covers a variety of areas, public sector is one of the larger sections - but one of the more interesting parts of the book explains some of the differences between commercial and academic tenders, etc.

Whilst a lot of the content may seem like common sense to some people (and much of it is), there is a wealth of information in here that even the most accomplished bid writer would struggle to remember from memory alone.

Whether you are new to bid writing and want to learn from scratch, or are a seasoned professional looking to smarten your game - this book is the best you'll find. Well worth every penny.

I have a copy of this excellent book, and use it all the time as a valuable aid to improve the quality and outcome of my tendering. The principles it sets out apply to every kind of tender and yes, every kind of business. I think the author's comment states a very fair position. If Mr Gaskell wants specialist advice on design-and-build and BOT contracts, there are other specialised books out there to help him.

This book covers the essential elements of producing effective proposals and tenders, also providing an insight into the direction of public procurement (at time of writing this!). Not so great for bidding for private work, however, public procurement with inherent hoops to jump through is suitably addressed. The text is well laid out and is fairly easy to refer to particular topics of interest.
