The USPCC (Bicycle) make the best cards available. Together with American magic company Ellusionist they now produce many awesome black decks such as the Vipers, Arcane, Shadow Masters and the Black Tigers. New designs are coming out all the time each one cooler than the last. So why stick to the Black Tigers?
The answer is simple "Gaffs". If you only use cards as they are, perhaps for poker, then get whatever design appeals to you. However, if you are a magician then you need to be able to get gaff cards and gaff decks to match in order to create your magical effects. Because the Black Tigers where some of the first black cards and have been around a while. So now there are several trick versions available; such as svengalli, stripper, brainwave, mini, and a whole pack of 52 gaff cards. There is also a book and DVD to accompany the black tigers and the gaffs. All these trick decks and gaff cards may not be available in other designs such as the vipers. So if you're a magician then the Black Tigers are very well supported.
Why are they called tigers? I've never understood. There is a tiger on the box, but there are no "tigers" anywhere in the pack. Note too that the early version of these where all black and white (avoid for the above reasons of gaffs). These listed as "Red pips" mean that the hearts and diamonds are printed in bright red. This gives a stunning contrast when you spread the deck. Note the little red scrolls on the front of the pack indicating the red pip version. They are basically a reversed image of the traditional bicycle design. So surprisingly this means that the backs contain a lot of white. Hence they can easily be signed using a sharpie marker (a coloured one shows up great). However the faces of the cards are black, hence you should use a "Silver" or gold sharpie. This looks so cool and creates a stunning souvenir for the audience member. A black card with a silver signature!
Often not mentioned, the new boxes also contain "predictions" printed on the box. For example seven of diamonds is written into the bar code and a small Q Heart is printed on the top of the box. (Most bicycle boxes now have this). The jokers (2) riding a bicycle each has 3 spades on their sleeve. The two advertising cards (for Ellusionist) are also very beautiful with the "E" company logo.
The cards look very cool, fan easy and are the best quality cards you can buy. They create a stunning reaction. Whilst the cards are super quality, you will find that the box soon gets tatty. If required just use a black sharpie to touch up the box (or any cards).
Tip- buying one pack and paying a couple of pounds for postage isn't really good value. Buy three or more and the cost per pack becomes a bargain.
