...this copy of the Hebrew Old Testament is excellent value. The printing quality is generally excellent and the paper is of a suprisingly substantial quality for a work of this length.
There is a multi-lingual introduction and the text itself is clearly annotated, although not in English.
The only thing I would primarily be wary of is the fact that, as a paperback, some care will need to be taken to prevent pages falling out in the long-term, although I do find this with most lengthy paperback books.

Although work has been underway for years on a new version of the text, this remains the standard Hebrew reference for serious study.
It well-printed Hebrew with pointing and cantillation marks. It contains the canonical OT, excluding apocrypha. It contains ample information where different manuscripts or traditions differ.
The introduction is in several lanugages, and is generally good. Once inside the text, however, all the footnotes, titles and information is in Latin; and abbreviated too. You'll pick up the basics soon enough if you forgotten your Latin, but it can be offputting to a budding Hebrew scholar.

It is a base for reading the Hebrew Scriptures in their original writing language. Essential for everyone who wishes to study this ancient language and the Divine Book.

BHS paperback edition 7 May 2007
By L. Rothfarb - Published on Amazon.com
A clearly printed, well-bound version of the BHS. The main drawback, in exchange for the compact size compared with the full-size, hardback edition, is that the Masorah Parva notes in the margins and the footnotes are so small that they are very difficult to read. A magnifying glass is required to ease the eye strain. While the price for this edition is attractive, I wish I had purchased the full-size, hardback edition.

The Academic & Translational Standard 12 Feb. 2003
By Frederic C Putnam - Published on Amazon.com

The importance of BHS is not necessarily its version of the Masora (edited by Gerard Weil) or textual notes (the part that varies from edition to edition), but that its text is the basis for the last generation (thirty years) of commentaries, translations, articles, monographs, &c., so that anyone who wants to use these tools knowledgeably needs to refer to the text of BHS in their own study, just as those who want to compare their favourite translation to the Hebrew or Aramaic text--a common motivation for students of Biblical Hebrew--needs to look at BHS.
My rating of four stars reflects my own irritation with the numerous gratuitous textual footnotes based on an editor's concept of what Hebrew poetry (for example) should look like, and the editorial decision to represent (arrange) certain passages in otherwise narrative books as poetry. If one ignores the textual notes, of course, the former is not an issue, and as long as the reader remembers that the manuscript upon which this is based does not reflect "poetic" layout, the latter concern is also laid aside.

I wish I had bought a hardback version of this book 30 Jun. 2014
By Pmthorner - Published on Amazon.com
This edition of the Bible is beautifully printed and is a standard for scholars of Biblical Hebrew. I sometimes wished the notes at the sides of the text were printed in a larger font because they are sometimes hard to decipher. I bought this in paperback which was my mistake.
