Product Description

Do you ever wish someone could explain the Old and New Covenants in five easy steps? Behind every one of God's covenants with man is a five-fold legal treaty. God introduces Himself and defines the relationship, the methods, the possible outcomes, and the future. But God's covenants aren't just legal treaties; they're personal. Covenant is God's method of maturing man. Every covenant is a grand quest for the bittersweet wine of God's kingdom, but that cup is only for faithful servants, men who are willing to be broken first, like bread. This simple five-fold pattern finds its origin deep in the heart of the Trinity. It not only shapes the speeches of God, but it's also the structure behind every story in the Bible. The Covenant Key unlocks every door.

The Key to Maturity 24 Oct 2011
By Rick Capezza - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have to admit that when I first heard that a graphic designer had written a book on how to read the Bible, I giggled a bit. I thought of a computer nerd who sees the Bible as ideology, not as literature. But I forgot that graphic designers are also artists. When I read Bible Matrix I, I quickly learned that Mike Bull is like a curator who can explain why a sculptor formed each curve of his statue. This is not to say that Bull is creating fanciful interpretations of a straightforward Bible. He simply understands the Great Poet and the Great Story.

He truly knows God's artistry. He breathes death and resurrection and sees the pattern of Scripture moving from glory to glory - both here and now, and in eternity. Bull understands the sweet beauty of maturation. He sees the centrality of the covenant and moves fluidly through Scriptural covenant structures. When people arrange things, they arrange by organization. But God orders through relationships. Mike Bull understands both the man-ordered garden and the God-ordered forest, and seeks to express God's order in a form that helps us see both the forest and the trees. Not everyone will get it the first time, but the poets will.

If you liked Bible Matrix I, you'll love Bible Matrix II. The Covenant Key goes deeper and is written in an even more fluid style than the first volume on the DNA of the Scriptures. This book is sweet to the soul and pierces the heart. Put it in your collection right now. Eat it slowly and digest.

Buy and Read Bible Matrix II The Covenant Key 6 Jan 2012

Review of Bible Matrix II The Covenant Key by Michael Bull (from hence BMIICK)

After reading Totus Christus and Bible Matrix I could not wait to sink my teeth into BMIICK. My imagination soared as I pictured myself reading mountainous Biblical typology as a refreshing cup of ice cold water on a blazing hot day. Oh there was water alright. But that came between sweaty rounds. The truth is this book is a punch in the face in order that we wake up to reality. I am not saying BMIICK is devoid of soaring Biblical typology or absent refreshment. It is full of these as well. But I was not expecting to be so humbled for my sin so much of the time. I was not expecting Biblical typology to be so tied up to sanctification and the walk of faith as Mike unfolds for us here. I have been studying the Bible Matrix kind of approach to the Scriptures in the context of the church for at least a decade and have never seen it unfolded like this.

What makes this book so powerful is that Mike approaches the Covenant as reality. Our Triune God's own life as Father, Son and Holy is covenantal. Creation is covenantal. God's relationship with man from the beginning is covenantal. Our fall in Adam was covenantal. Our redemption is covenantal. Such is where we normally stop. In BMIICK Mike does a tremendous job of marrying what is normally torn asunder; that being the legal and filial aspects of our covenant relation to God. But more than that Mike rescues talk of the covenant from the abstract and brings it right home into our daily lives of faith. We don't want it there. It is too messy here at home and at work and especially at church. But Mike won't let it float. He knows it belongs in the dirt with us and so he brings it there with all the structure, typology and chiasm.

Mike also sets the glories of covenant maturation before our eyes and it is right here that we stumble. We want the glory and the maturity of the covenant. We want it all and we want it now. But as Mike unfolds so faithfully in BMIICK this kind only comes through suffering, waiting and faithfulness over and over through death-resurrection patterns that shape our life. This we don't want. But Mike faithfully shows us that this is the only way. And hence we now know why it is that we are so immature and weak. We don't want God's way of covenant for us. However Mike will not let us off the hook. And for this Mike I am grateful for you and your bold book.

This is not an easy book to read. You will certainly not get everything the first or even second time through. But isn't that what makes something so worth it? Buy this book. Buy lots of this book and hand them out. Read it. Read it slowly. Start a book club and read it with others. Pray through it. Meditate on it. It needs to sink in. It will be well worth it.

Reality is Relational 15 Dec 2011
By A. Doug Floyd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Michael Bull brings a refreshing exploration of covenant theology in Bible Matrix II: The Covenant Key. Drawing upon the work of such luminaries as James Jordan and Peter Leithart, Bull immerses the reader in covenantal patterning through language and concepts that are accessible to the engaged reader. Sometimes theological ideas are trapped in theological language that limits who can understand the texts. Not so with Bull. He writes to the believer in a style that is simple and engaging. Like the lightning bolts of Jordan, some of Bull's phrasing explodes with insight and open up new horizons for the student of scripture.

Consider the lines: "All motion in Creation consists of relationships, the predictable way things, like the orbit of the different planets in relation to the gravity of the sun. Physics is relational. Chemistry is relational. The tides are relational. An ecosystem is relational. Agriculture is relational." While introducing covenant as relation between persons, Bull expands the horizon to reveal that all reality is relational. Bull proceeds to reveal covenant as education, as shelter, as the key to understanding the Bible and all of history for that mater.

This helpful book introduces a way of thinking and living into Scripture that will challenge many Evangelicals to re-think, re-hearse, re-vision the Word. Yet Bull's premise is not innovation but draws from some of the richest streams in Reformed theology that are often overlooked by contemporary readers.

I highly recommend this text.
