this a great book, with very useful information about the spiritual side of the country which will give you a good basis to understand what Bhutan and it people are all about. When I was in Bhutan I was lucky enough to have one of the guides (Kunzang Namagye)who helped the author of the book, he spoke very highly of the book and author and how much knowledge the author had of the country. Buy this book and you won't go wrong.

I'm a big fan of footprint guides, my preferred travel guide book.
As usual you get an excellent section on history / culture / religon providing the background you need for your trip. There is also additional depth of information in the chapters dedicated to the individual places within Bhutan.
The drop to 4-stars is based on their trekking information. I was primarily doing trekking while in Bhutan (similar to a lot of visitors) and I kept finding myself using my friends lonelyplant to get the information that I required. More details on the treks would have been useful.

Came with cover upside down!!!

Am travelling to Bhutan in a short while and wanted to do some reading on the country. The lonely planet guide was not available and this guide seemed pretty good from the description unfortunately the cover is placed upside down, this of course does not stop one from being able to read it but it is utterly annoying and takes away any positive side unfortunately; especially as I live in Egypt which would make returning the item more costly than ordering it in the first place.
Otherwise I find the book as well very dry and with a lack of photographs especially as Bhutan is such a beautiful country
