Product Description

Product Description
Paul Lambert has had an amazing career. Considered no more than a decent professional during his days with St Mirren and Motherwell, the player became the first Scot to take advantage of the Bosman ruling, signing for Borussia Dortmund. There, he inspired his star-studded team-mates - among them Andreas Moller, Matthias Sammer and Jurgen Kohler - to their European Cup triumph over the mighty Juventus. The fanatical Dortmund support were then devastated to hear he was leaving the club to return to his home country. They packed the famous Westfalen Stadium to bid an emotional farewell to the Scot who had become a local hero. Lambert signed for Celtic where, within weeks of his transfer, he picked up a League Cup winner's medal, and he seems destined for more success with the rejuvenated Parkhead squad. Already a favourite with the fans for his stunning strikes against Rangers and Motherwell, Lambert has also established himself as an essential member of the international side. This book takes us inside two of the biggest clubs in Europe as Lambert recounts the events of the past few years. He details how he helped tame Manchester United in the Champions' League and how he dealt with the threat of such brilliant players as Del Piero and Zidane in the final. He explains why he returned to Scotland and what life is really like at Parkhead - and why he believes Celtic are set to become the country's number-one club again. And, with Scotland once more in the World Cup, he takes us step-by-step through France '98.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost too nice, 19 Feb 1999
By A Customer
Paul Lambert was the unsung hero of the Scottish World Cup effort and after reading his autobiography it seems that he's been an unsung hero for most of his playing life. While it was an interesting read on his playing experiences, some of his opinions/points seemed a bit watery. Not that someone has to be scathing, but when he didn't care for a coach or player, he's almost too eager to find something right with them. A minor setback though. Paul seems to have avoided any controversy up to now and has found the fine line between football, family, and life. Good for any Celtic, Dortmund, or Scotland fan. A truly classy player (but almost too good to be true!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Lambert is alright, 15 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Being a Celtic supporter, I was partial to this book from the beginning. Lambert has had quite a career, while is not a Pele or even a Ronaldo, he is a gentleman and a great player. I liked his insight on coaches and his teammates (he has had quite a few groups of them) and I especially enjoyed reading about his experiences in the Scotland squad in France '98. A good read overall and you dont have to be from Bonnie Scotland to fully enjoy it!
