The documentary actually gives away the whole plot in a non-linear sound bite format. This makes a good supplement and adds a little insight to the story as we get interviews with Philip Pullman himself along with people that interpret his knows and actors enact the British version called "Northern Lights."

One important point made by Philip Pullman just as with the "Lord of the Rings", this is not really a trilogy (meaning three stories) but one story in three books. You will be better off buying all three or at least the net book before finishing the first.

The so called extras are mostly re-hashed or rearranged versions of the main presentation.

I bought this dvd because the write-ups seemed to indicate that it was the second film in the series. As it turned out, it was just an advertising medium for the books of Dan Brown and other writers. The Golden Compass was mentioned, but the majority of the disk was about other works. It was not what I was expecting and I would not have bought it had I seen an honest report.

Interesting to see how this film was made. The CGi effects are brilliant and it is a lovely story. Still waiting for the sequel!

I bought this for my daughter who loves all of Philip Pullman's books. She had read them some time ago but enjoyed having the DVD to see how film compared with the book.
