This pair's first album together, Fully Rigged, was an instant classic. This one, by comparison, seems over-familiar. Anyone who knows Bain's earlier work, and Scottish music generally, will recognise many of these tunes; and, whilst there's nothing wrong with re-visiting them - it's what traditional music is all about, in a sense - it's not the stuff that outstanding albums are made of. Unless the performances are absolutely stunning - which these are not, except perhaps for an excellent version of the old Scott Skinner favourite Hector the Hero. They also helpfully explain what the tune is about, which I never knew before.
It's good, but not wonderful. It's on the short side, too.
