Product Description

Synopsis

An expert in social anxiety outlines the techniques that have helped his patients overcome shyness, social phobias, and other problems, focusing on specific social situations.

From the Author

Shyness can be un-learned: Let this book change your life!
I am a "recovering" shy person myself--I'd avoid phone calls and parties, clam up around people, have anxiety attacks, and lose control of my thoughts. Writing this book with Jonathan Berent helped me to change. He shows you that shyness doesn't exist: It's just an overreaction to social situations. Jonathan teaches you how to control your thoughts and feelings through relaxation. Then, he shows you how to build social skills like conversation and dating. And finally, he gives good advice on building a network of friends. No one wants to be shy. And no one has to be. This book can change your life or the life of a shy person you care about.

I suffered from severe shyness and low self esteem for years. I really felt like nobody could understand it. What was wrong with me? This book showed me how to see my problem for what it was: a severe overreaction. I learned how to overcome it and to build a network of friendships and acquaintances. I wish I had found this book in my 20s instead of at 41.

One of the very best books of it's type. It seeks to explain to the reader why and how shyness occurs. But it is not just a dry theoretical work -it is full of practical ideas to make a difference in your life. Some effort is needed to overcome the problem - there is no quick-fix solution. But for a problem that has developed over years, one cannot expect otherwise. An excellent workbook that will pay dividends for the determined.

Most books and authors are consumed by their own theories and narrow-mindedness. This book though allowed for a more complete picture of social anxiety to shine through. I would strongly recommend this book to others who suffer from shyness and want to get beyond it.

An incredibly helpful book

Too lengthy
There is much valuable information in this book, but it takes far too much of a time commitment to follow it through and do the exercises.

Tools to overcome your fears - and then some.
Most self-help books out there for "shys" focus on one or two things you could do to become more relaxed in social situations. Read more
