Book Description

5 Jan 2012

In 1999 His Holiness The Dalai Lama published the bestselling Ancient Wisdom: Modern World, which addressed the question of ethics for the new millennium. A decade later, His Holiness enters the contemporary debate about religion vs atheism, and returns to the theme of ethics with a major new work: Beyond Religion: ethics for a whole world.

In this thought-provoking new book he argues that religion is not a necessity for pursuing a spiritual life. Rather, focusing on tolerance and understanding between religions, as well as tolerance and understanding between believers (of any faith) and non-believers is the way forward. The way to achieve such an approach, he proposes, is through a system of secular ethics grounded in a deep appreciation of our common humanity. Aimed particularly at the general reader, Beyond Religion: ethics for a whole world is a modern-day polemic which outlines those ethics he believes should be central to our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome 24 Jan 2012

I would strongly recommend this product to anyone who has an interest in, philosophy, the human race, and how we as a society can help make the world a better place. I have read quite a few of the dalai lamas books but found this one to be the most user friendly in relation to understanding some of the more complex teachings in buddhist religion. The dalai lama does not try to preach but discusses how best we as a race can live and work in harmony.Ace!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Reasoning, even for religious folk. 4 Jan 2012
Format:Hardcover
I suggest prospective readers of this book view the Amazon USA site for many good reviews of this book: I couldn't do much better.

Take note that the 2011 edition is more expensive than the 2012 edition.

I am sure I do not need to say anything about the wisdom of the books written by the Dalai Lama. For those new to his writing, it is likely to change how you view life.
