When it comes to the world of psychiatry, one name has long stood out among the rest. Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist who came to be known as the “Father of Psychoanalysis”. Freud himself suffered from psychosomatic symptoms yet would go on to develop groundbreaking theories on the unconscious mind and repression. Freud’s work in analyzing dreams has helped aid psychiatrists and patients alike to treat various physical and mental ailments.

This version of Beyond the Pleasure Principle includes a table of contents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading at a bargain price 16 Aug 2013
By Sena
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an important booklet by Freud which introduces the controversial Death Drive (Todestrieb) in human beings. This was perhaps Freud's attempt to account for the impulses in Man that lead to the carnage of the First World War, and it could be argued that his hypothesis was confirmed by the occurrence of the next war which killed five times as many people. The formatting of this book is excellent.

For those new to Freud I would like to point out that Freud's writings are not easy to understand, and it would perhaps be advisable to read a basic introduction to Freud before coming to this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Original Freudian Theory 6 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was difficult to mark this book, as it was perfect for what I needed it for (original freudian theory) but difficult to understand in parts, partly I think due to translation and partly due to Freuds writing style. Stick with it though if you need the information, you'll get there in the end!
