Okay, just to put this in context, I am a long-term Metallica fan, own all their official albums (apart from Lulu...), and have seen them live twice - they don't do Ireland very often...
Death Magnetic was newly released and in my car's CD player the day my father died, and darkly underscores that event...
So, having waited for the intervening four and a bit years for something new (Lulu doesn't count), I was still pleasantly surprised to see this set of 'out takes' from Death Magnetic.
On first listen, I like the curious melange of deja vu / patina of age / lack of polish on the four longish tracks.
If you are reading this review then I suspect you like Metallica at least a little bit: go buy the CDEP -it's worth a few quid of your hard earned cash - you won't be disappointed...and if this presages Metallica's next full-scale CD album offering...then I won't be disappointed either!
