1.0 out of 5 stars Farrants account of the highgate vampire, 17 Jul 2002

This is not a very high quality product. In around 32 pages it gives David Farrants highly subjective and extreamly suspect account of the events surrounding the highgate vampire. The best part of the book is the extensive photographs of some of the major players. For a saner account of the highgate vampire I would recommend Sean Manchesters' "The highgate vampire"

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, if a little light on facts., 27 April 1999
By A Customer
A slim book - less than 50 pages, Highgate Vampire contains some interesting views and facts about the vampire and Highgate cemetary generally. Apart from the fascinating ghost stories of the surrounding area it is unlikely that anyone who has read about the case to any extent will find much new.

The book does contain quite a few black and white photos. Some of these are (slightly 'posed' ones) of the author, but others offer a glimpse of Highgate itself.

I enjoyed the book, but would have enjoyed it more if there was a little more of the history of Highgate, and more photos in and around the cemetary.

An interesting addition to the bookshelf.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting & unnusual, 18 April 2008
By chez "@metropolis" (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I'd definately recommend this book to anyone interested in the Highgate Vampire. It's a slim booklet but is an interesting read of an unnusual case in Londons Highgate Cemetery.

Reading Sean Manchesters Highgate Vampire aswell, these are two very interesting perspectives of a mysterious & haunting case. In reading both these authors understand that David Farrant is a wiccan (though some of his photos may seem alittle contradictory) & that Sean Manchester is a bishop coming from a more christian perspective.

David Farrant in his book relates his investigation of a malevolent psychic entity while Sean Manchester his experience of a living or undead vampire. There's some antagonism between the two authors, Farrant suggesting a living vampire is delusive & perhaps inspired by fiction.

I'd recommend Vampires by Konstantinos if you're interested in further reading, also Montague Summers is an authority on vampire lore.
