Time Out

"A strong collection."

Book Description

A fantastic collection of short stories from one of Britain's highly talented new wave authors, Andrew Hook. Edgy, different, thought-provoking stories that include 'Only The Lonely' - first published in Fusing Horizons (and nominated for a British Fantasy Award for 2004), as well unpublished stories such as 'Kiosk B,' and 'The Luxury of Sleep.' Andrew's first collection - The Virtual Menagerie - was shortlisted for the best collection 2003 British Fantasy Awards.

From the Publisher

Andrew Hook's second collection of stories builds on the success of the British Fantasy Society Award nominated "Virtual Menagerie" (Elastic Press) with twenty-one tales examining human frailties and expectations against speculative, noirish and fantastical landscapes. Rooted in the everyday, his characters implicitly connect with the reader, drawing them into believable scenarios only one step removed from the world that we think we know.

About the Author

The driving force behind Elastic Press, Andrew Hook is a well established short story writer with over 40 stories published in the independent press in regional, national and international magazines in a variety of genres. Recent stories have appeared in The Third Alternative, Em: writing & music, Multi-Story, Buzzwords, and Front & Centre magazines amongst others. His work has been favourably reviewed in Time Out, as well as elsewhere, and his story April Syrup was recently honourably mentioned in Ellen & Datlow's Years Best Fantasy & Horror. In July 1999 he was the featured writer in Roadworks magazine. His collection, The Virtual Menagerie, has been nominated for a British Fantasy Society Award, 2003, for best collection.

His first novel, Moon Beaver, a comic satire on big business, the cult of individuality, and the teasing quality of time, will shortly be available from ENC Press. His second novel, Full Circle, is up for grabs.

In addition to writing fiction Andrew also provides book and magazine reviews for The Fix and The Third Alternative. His editorial skills have previously been reflected in a brief but intense period as one of the co-editors of the magazine White Noise. As the publisher of Elastic Press he hopes to draw upon on his experience of the independent press in order to create a publishing house which will work alongside authors to develop their potential and expand their existing reputations. His latest collection of short stories, Beyond Each Blue Horizon, is published by Crowswing Books in June 2005.
