Review

Nearly everything known about the science of human decomposition comes from one place - forensic anthropologist William Bass' Body Farm - CNN

Product Description

Dr Bill Bass' work, and in particular his Body Farm, has furthered forensic anthropology and made it possible to prove from the discovery of a skeleton, no matter how much time has elapsed since death, how and when death occurred and to whom the body belonged. His work has been vital for the sake of science and the cause of justice In Beyond the Body Farm Jefferson Bass details the most memorable cases from his career, including alibis he has broken, cold cases he has solved - including one from the Ancient world that took him to Iran - and several cases he has been able to revisit throughout his career as new techniques have become possible and scientific discoveries made. This is what happens when Dr Bass goes beyond the Body Farm.

Death's Acre Part 2 19 May 2009
Format:Paperback
Anyone who has read Dr Bass' original memoirs, Death's Acre, will know what to expect from this book. This one was written in 2007 and recounts more of the extremely interesting and sometimes downright weird cases that Dr Bass has faced over the years.

There is less in here about the development of the Anthropology Research Facility (The Body Farm) at the University of Tennessee and more about the cases and the techniques used to solve them.

I am a huge fan of Dr Bass' work and it never ceases to amaze me how when writing about a topic as sombre as death, and often decay, he can keep his sense of humour and also put this across in the written word.

If you are a fan of Kathy Reichs, Beverley Connor, Patricia Cornwell etc then this book is for you!

fascinating 18 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
If you have a macabre fascination for forensics, this is the book for you. Dr Bass gives more examples of the research in to human decomposition he, students and colleagues have done. Personally I prefer his 1st book, Death's Acre, where everything was so new. By the time I read this book, I'd already read his 3 crime novels and so many examples from both books appear in the novels, it's hard to remember where/when you've read this before. Have read the 1st book twice and was equally fascinated both times. I can't describe this as gory or voyeuristic - it's factual and written with compassion and respect for the dead. Thoroughly enjoyed reading both books.

Brilliant 13 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
One of the best books I have read recently. Understandable and a good supporting book to justify the work on the Body farm itself.
