I won this book on the accompanying website, after seeing the website advertised on campus, and it is absolutely fantastic. If you want one book to come to university with this is it, for all those penniless and scrimping days. Not only does it contain loads of fantastic recipes, including baked camembert in a box (cheats fondue!) and Cauliflower Pakoras, it also includes what kitchen equipment you need in a student kitchen or shared house and a menu planner for the most important week of the year - Freshers week, and things for your store cupboard that you will need all year long and the best places to buy certain items on the cheap.
The book is separated into three sections - survive, share and spoil yourself. Survive the recipes for everyday, mainly with ingredients for one person, plus leftovers and with hints and tips as to use it again another night without it getting boring. Share for when you cook for lots or share the burden between friends, making it cheaper for everyone and spoil yourself for when you fancy a cheap treat (My personal favourite is pate on toast).
This book is amazing, and for parents looking for a book to furnish their child with a book for survival, this is it, even if they are a hopeless cook! It is not patronising as some of the others available on the market, it does not tell you how to cook toast or anything as simple as that, but it does explain everything perfectly. I only wish I had this book earlier, it has made me a more adventurous eater and made my shopping trips a more exciting and cheap experience. Well done Fiona.
