Product Description

goes beyond symptom management of anxiety and phobia disorders to treat the whole person. If you're struggling with any of the symptoms encompassed by these broad categories, you'll find, in this straightforward and informative book, a comprehensive array of integrative strategies the goal of which is your long-term recovery.

Drawing on perspectives and techniques that have proven their use in clinical practice, this book covers alternative therapies such as herbs, yoga, massage, acupuncture, and homeopathy. It addresses the impact of perfectionism and other personality issues, such as the fear of rejection and abandonment, or habitual over-cautiousnessoon anxiety and phobia problems.

Some of the fundamentals of this bookis approach include: suggestions to help you simplify your life; tips on finding your unique mission or purpose; ways you can include spirituality in your process of healing; and strategies for enlarging your view of life to embrace the highest vision of your recovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must!, 10 Jun 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond Anxiety and Phobia: A Step-by-step Guide to Lifetime Recovery (Paperback)
This book is absolutely fantastic. I bought the first one, the anxiety and phobia workbook, which I found so helpful to me when suffering these symptoms. Then I ordered this one, and it is the most powerful book in self-help that I have found. This is when you are done with your therapist, the Cognitive Behavior Therapy, the medication and your psychiatrist. Not to be missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the Typical Advise (that you've already heard), 19 Jun 2001
By Karyn Piper - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Beyond Anxiety and Phobia: A Step-by-step Guide to Lifetime Recovery (Paperback)
This book is extremely helpful to those who have found other advise too elementary. If you have tried the basics - diet, relaxation, medications - and are not satisfied that you are getting to the ROOT of your problem, try this book. The author helps you discover personality traits and other issues that could be undermining your basic sense of security. I have always considered myself to be a very strong person and I was at a loss when I began experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. I quit caffeine, learned to relax and started eating better. It helped, but I still didn't feel "right." I have gotten much more relief from my symptoms by reading this book. The author asks questions to help the reader explore the BIG things in life, including love, spirituality and having a sense of purpose. He includes a lot of food for thought as well as practical advise on how to build for yourself a secure, meaningful life. The language is very easy to read, written intelligently and respectfully. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desperate to find real help, 15 Sep 2005
By thomas - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Beyond Anxiety and Phobia: A Step-by-step Guide to Lifetime Recovery (Paperback)
My wife has been suffering for months with debilitating anxiety. In addition to medication and therapy, we have read about 6 (layman) books on the subject. I found this book to be the only secular book on the subject that offered practical, clear information that really helped. Save your money and order this book first. It is very comprehensive, well organized, and easy to understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps learn about yourself and others, 12 Jan 2007
By Annushka - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Beyond Anxiety and Phobia: A Step-by-step Guide to Lifetime Recovery (Paperback)
I never look to books to give me the ultimate answer. If I learn something from it and can apply it in some way to my life, and if it's writen well enough to keep me interested, it's worth it. This book was very good that way, at least for someone who likes philosopical/psychological stuff.

I've been diagnosed with a general anxiety disorder, and had a bout of depression last year. A very good therapist recommended this to me. In fact, she said that I HAD TO buy it. I did, and learned a lot about various types and triggers for anxiety. The more I learn about it, the easier for me to deal with it. It became a familiar, known side of me, and when I can separate the rest of me from it and look at it, and study it, it becomes less and less relevant. Which is what we all want, right?

And, it helped me understand other types of psychological issues. I don't suffer from all of those, thankfully, but it is sure interesting to learn how those work. Anyway, it's a good read. Enjoy!
