These are excellent headphones, sound quality, comfort and shutting out external noise.

However, I have had two pairs now and both have suffered the same issue. The rubber pads on the top of the phones have worked loose and fallen off after only a few weeks. I will be sending my second pair back, or requesting replacement pads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Audiophile Headphone for your iPod 1 Aug 2011
Verified Purchase
These headphones deserve a better-written review than the two that were posed on Amazon when I bought my pair!

...and firstly to answer the points raised in those 'reviews':
1. The bass response is clear and accurate; the frequency response perfectly flat. If you want 'clubbing' sounds buy a cheap pair with muddy, boosted bass.
2: They are portable because they fold down into a convenient package and come with a travel case, and more importantly they are low impedance meaning that they can go loud with low-power sources like iPods and MP3 players.

They are beautifully constructed, the sound is crystal clear and balanced, the passive sound isolation is good enough to allow comfortable listening in noisy environmnents. I wore them for the whole of a trans-Atlantic flight and they were so comfortable I could forget I was wearing them.

I prefered both the comfort and the 'clinical' sound to the 'warmer' B&W P5 although it has to be said there was very little in it and both aspects are personal choices. The P5 does have the advantage of the remote control feature for iPad/iPhone, which the T50P does not so if you are an iPhone owner this might be a disadvantage.

I would definitely recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars The amazing beyerdynamic T50p!!! 30 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase
I had been looking for a set of headphones that were portable but with sound that transcended me into my own world wherever I was was wearing them be it at home or on my daily travels. I tried a lot of different headphones including Bose quiet comfort 15 which had good noise isolation but sounded boring, AKG K550 amazing sounding, good mids, highs, lows and extremely detailed but two drawbacks for me, firstly the headphones are massive and feel like you are wearing earmuffs and heat your ears quiet quickly, secondly they have a 6ft cable and they are not very portable best for home use. House of Marley stir it up, these are terrible, the build quality is very good but the sound is appalling.....avoid. AKG K450 these headphones are extremely good and anyone looking at getting some portable on ear headphones that produce an extremely engaging sound on more of a budget then these are the ones to get there are no comparison at there price point. Beats by Dre Pro very well made, there sound however is engineered to be bass heavy so more suited to people who want a lot of bass and listen to music that suits there sound signature mainly hip hop and dance music, for me the bass was to much and ruined the overall sound. Bower and Wilkins P5 headphones these are exceptionally well made and have a excellent sound the only reason why I didnt buy these is because I prefer the overall sound and comfort of the Beyerdynamic. Now finally the Beyerdynamic T50p headphones, these have a cool retro design and are handmade using extremely light weight metal. They are very well built, look very classy and are very comfortable to wear, you can wear them for hours without even noticing except for the amazing sound. Read more ›

3.0 out of 5 stars A headscratcher 26 Sep 2011
Verified Purchase
The plus points: Highly detailed, energetic sound. The most detailed I have yet heard (after a long trail of cans including AKG 701, AKG 'open' ear speakers, Beyer electrostatic, now discontinued, Stax electrostatic, Beyer 770 and 990, Koss, various Sennheisers and so on. Good soundstage, exceptionally so for a closed back design. Quirky retro design.

The minus points: Coloured, boxy, biscuity tonal character, over forward upper midrange and treble, uncomfortable to wear, headband too large/ or to put in another way, not enough scope to reduce the range of adjustment, very sensitive to position, over dry bass, dynamics lacked shading - too forward all the time.

So it was sent back to Amazon; if you can't get the cans to fit there isn't much point. I think Beyer are really on to something interesting that with refinement could be truly amazing. But as a first generation product it is way too uneven. If your taste is for edge of the seat, crisp reproduction, and you have a big enough head, these should be auditioned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound and functional design 6 Sep 2011
By prickly
Have had these for around a year now and like them very much. Noise isolation on train commute is excellent (have had in-earphones before) and the sound is detailed, sophisticated and balanced and quite airy for a closed design. Comfortable to wear.
What makes the headphones portable is the fact that the ear pieces rotate so that the phones are flat. I just slide them into my messenger bag with lots of other stuff - good thing therefore that they are made quite sturdily, i.e. all metal with metal hinges.
One of the pads has shifted at the top has shifted but it is easier to shift it back the to exchange the headphones ;-) - this is why I have given then 4* instead of 5*. I don't think it is an issue...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set of headphones!
Once you have them set up correctly, and it really is worth getting it right, these are sonic wonders. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

I'm no audiophile, have owned a pair of beyerdynamic dtx101's and Grado SR80s in the past, but for closed back headphones these were very impressive. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cans but some complaints
Let me start off with the obvious - the T50P sound great - I'm happy, but there are a couple of 'buts':

1) but the portable nature makes them more on-ear than over ear. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as the hype!
Very good sense of enclosure, which keeps out reasonable levels of background noise. I've found the higher frequencies a little muddier than I had hoped, but still a good product.
