Product Description

The new T1 are reference level headphones from Beyerdynamic, designed to generate significantly more sound pressure through redeveloped high-performance motors and offer stunning audio performance. The sound of these has been designed as airy and detail rich with excellent reproduction of fine tones. The result of much research and development, the T1 features 600-Ohm coils that are extra light whilst offer stunning sound. High efficiency Traditional extra-filigree drives tend to suffer from low efficiency rates. That prevents them from achieving real loudness when faced with underpowered headphone outputs, especially the popular 32 Ohm headphones that have become common in this age of the MP3. Yet the engineers didn't completely re-develop the driver just to increase its efficiency. They also achieved higher maximum volumes compared with previous 600 Ohm models - an impressive 7 decibels. Newly designed magnets They also feature newly designed magnets. Neodymium magnets had previously been positioned in the centre of the coil, which severely limited its size due to the flat design of the earpieces. The developers have now repositioned the magnets into a ring around the coil, allowing for a more than doubling of the magnetic flux density to approx. 1.2 Tesla. Even crossing the magical threshold of one Tesla for a pair of headphones would have been an admirable feat. They don't only sound stunning... The casing is also designed to satisfy the highest expectations. The open earpieces, covered through an elegant metal grate, are shielded from disruptive sonic reflections and protected against moisture through Acoustexx, a high-end acoustic mesh. As with all premium products from beyerdynamic, the new T1 is produced by qualified craftsmen who even in this age of globalisation continue to work from their headquarters in Heilbronn.

I ordered these for christmas 2013 and only got to reviewing them now. It's likely they have had enough time to burn-in by now.

They are the finest pair of headphones I have ever owned and the quality is palpable (you really do get what you pay for).

I bought these to complement 2 other pairs of headphones (ATH-M50 and AD700x's) but found that they are good enough all rounders to replace them entirely. I still pick up the ATH-M50 sometimes for the enhanced bass (being closed back cans) but the T1's are possibly the best all-rounders in existence.

I am going to base my review in 2 aspects: ARCHITECTURE/DESIGN and most importantly SOUND.

ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
Just beautiful. They look heavy, but are extremely light and comfortable. No comfort gimmicks here: they have a standard headband with tons of padding on the top that you can wear for extremely long periods and forget you have something on your head. The cups themselves are also extremely light and LARGE. Unless your name is Dumbo or you have freakishly large ears, the cups shouldn't even touch your ears :) .

Bottom line is I've worn these for entire days and never once felt uncomfortable.

The cable (a constant source of worry for me, with previous headphones) is nice and THICK. The cable has never curled or twisted itself up in any way. If you're reasonably careful, it's unlikely you will experience any problems with it. It's also quite long and I haven't even felt the need to stretch it out fully, seeing as I use them on my desktop PC.

They also look nice. I like it when a product is not only functional but pretty.

I am surprised this has not been reviewed here before. I will be assessing the T1 on a mid-fi lamp DAC and amp setup. I am using a mid-budget amplifier/DAC. I will be occasionally comparing them with my Sennheiser HD-650, which is not expected to be in a fair fight here, but it's such a reference pair of headphones for many.

Resolution (detail):
- The T1s are exceptionally detailed. I am finding a lot of new detail in the music I've known for ages. This is the case in particular with details in the higher frequency range where my HD650 are not the best at detailing.

Soundstage:
- Very generous and deep with very good presentation. HD650 doesn't hold a candle here ... sorry. I have found a new level of enjoyment with classical music.

Transparency:
- Excellent. Maybe one of the main strengths of this model. Or it could be that I haven't heard better. :)

Treble:
- This is where I am on the fence at the moment. It depends on the rest of your system, recordings and probably burn-in state of the T1s, but right now they are a bit on the bright side. I am very sensitive to treble and sibilance and T1s are borderline too bright for me. I should be able to confirm this again in a few weeks. (Later edit: Still too bright for me)

Mids:
- Crisp, exceptional female vocals. Reference neutral with just a bit of warmth.

Bass:
- Really great extension, quality and sub-bass. I could do with just a bit more quantity and I will do some lamp rolling to try compensate. Where the HD650 have better quantity, I am surprised by the quality of the bass reproduced by the T1s.

Summary:
- The T1s have opened up further high-end quality with a few more music genres over the HD650s.

Hi,

People I'm really in loss of words. I do not know where to begin to describe this 'sculpture' if I may say. The packaging is enormous and the headphone Aluminium case is astonishing!

You know, the moment you see the "Made in Germany" engraving inside the headphone leather band you'll know that you've struck gold!

The headphone design is for studio or home use, you cannot walk around with it because firstly, it is a semi-opened design, That means people WILL share your music with you! Secondly, the cable is made from heavy and high quality materials and it is thick, almost 2.5 meters long. The stereo jack is 6.35 mm width, so you'll need an adapter if you insist on carrying it outside.

Do I need to speak about the sound quality coming out from a pair of tesla powered headphones?! All I can say is that it is excellent in every range especially the mid-range.... oh my GOD! I'm outta here, Mozart is calling!
