5.0 out of 5 stars Beyerdynamic DT150 Review 14 April 2011
I have waited a year to write the full review to these headphones (over a year, in fact. Ordered them on March 10th, 2010, date of writing is April 14th, 2011).
The reason I decided to wait a year to write a full review is due to the fact that I find headphones of this price need to be given a long period of time before the fulfil their true worth (given that it is in many ways quite a large investment).

After a year of incredibly heavy usage (at least 3-4 hours a day for over a year) I can find no fault in them, they are the same as they were when I first unpacked and listened to them. The bottom end is still as well rounded and clear as before, the top end (perhaps a bit bright for purely 'entertainment' use) is clean and well formed and the mid-range is crisp and unmarked by distortion.

What little wear is done to the (replaceable) around-ear cups, and in reality that 'wear', is merely cosmetic and could have been easily avoided by a little more care in use.
Surprisingly, for such high quality (professional standard) headphones, I find that they are not in the least bit tiring to use for very long periods of time, and I have little to no fatigue after long stretches of use.

Truly the greatest pair of headphones I have ever used, and a great investment if you find yourself (like I did) burning through the mid/high range hi-fi headphones (Sony, Sennheiser etc...) quicker than is fiscally comfortable.

The frequency range (if you're interested) is:
5-30,000Hz
After doing a bit of testing (using Fruity Loops and other software) I discovered that they do struggle at both 5Hz and near 30,000Hz.
They do however comfortably go from 8Hz to 26,000Hz

I bought these headphones for a home recording project - recording and producing an album for my band, using a laptop, and an audio interface (Edirol FA-66). As we're recording all the parts separately I was looking for a single pair of headphones. I was hoping to find a pair that would not leak much sound when being used to record quiet instrument parts or vocals, but would also be useful for accurately monitoring recorded drum and guitar sounds.

So far I've been very impressed with these headphones. As a hobbyist who has done some recording in the past, my experience of other headphones is fairly limited. I have previously borrowed a pair of DT100's and have also used other cheaper consumer headphones. For the DT150's The frequency response seems very good to me, with a detailed and clear sound across all frequencies. The bass frequencies are much more present than in the DT100s, which were lacking in this area. I expect this to be useful when tweaking with EQ on bass guitar and the kick drum recordings. If one had to criticise these headphones, it might be to say that the bass is a little too high overall, but I expect the bass response, will be useful for me when I use them for mixing, alongside using speakers.

I have also found these headphones are great for listening back to music generally. I really like the bass end and the detailed sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great headphones 4 Sep 2009
These are professional studio and broadcast headphones which are used in recording studios and by television and movie sound engineers and other professional sound recordists all over the world. They have been around for years and thats why you won't see many recent reviews. They are excellent headphones for use in the home also which is what I use them for. I don't think you will find better sound or build quality for the money. Audiophiles might disagree but I think they are a match for Grados of a similar price but with better build quality.
